Today is Double or Nothing, AEW's biggest PPV of the year.
...any involvement from the people working on the toyline? Any coordination in marketing?
Now would be a perfect time to show series 3, or offer up preorders on series 2. Hell, neither WCT nor Jazwares have done a single thing to promote the PPV, either.
What is the freaking marketing strategy here?? WHERE is the marketing??
I can already tell that AEDub is going to be the red headed stepchild of Jazwares' lineup. That initial push, and forgotten.

Holy crap dude, Series 1 still isn't due for another three months.
Do you want them to pace things, or gas themselves on the damn ramp?
I get that it's the biggest PPV, but you can't rush these things!

I get that it's the biggest PPV, but you can't rush these things! Holy crap, woman--we already know two figures that are going to be in WWE Elite series EIGHTY. 4 series from now. Not to mention they already have series 3 and 4 sculpted, and ready in the hopper. And were planning on showing them before Comic Con. I know this as a fact. Anything else, or do you just want to carry on being contrary to be contrary? Sorry if that seemed contrary. Didn't mean it to. It's just... Well, the way I look at it, you can't really promote sales of a line that hasn't been released yet. They could logically be hyping preorders, but it's a bit... odd. Not unheard of, mind you. But odd. Second, to be fair about the recent reveal of Elite 80 Viking Raiders? I think it can be agreed on that the depth of the WWE talent pool is much much deeper than AEW right now. WWE could release three whole lines of FTiL figures tomorrow and barely scratch the surface of figures people are screaming for. AEW, meanwhile, is still relatively new and while they have some really good talent there that even I would love figures of, they can't exhaust it all in two years or the line will die a messy death. Obviously as the company grows, so will their options, but we already know most of series 3, and from my constant, late night hauntings of that thread, I'm not the only one whose afraid they will burn themselves out if they go too fast with this. Could they at least post preorders of series 2? I suppose they could. Could they show the odd render? Perhaps. I just really want to see this line succeed and I don't want them to flame out in a year. They need some time to find their footing is all. If you ask me, anyway.

And hell, even if they don't show any new figures--fine. Whatever. But why is Jazwares/Wicked Cool Toys social media NOT promoting the hell out of the PPV with their toyline, cross marketing? Seems foolish.

I'm not concerned at this stage, since it's still a few months out from the product going live. But at the same time, I agree. I'm a little surprised we haven't seen something - anything - in three months just to maintain momentum and keep people hyped up for the release.
I'm not sure how COVID's impact on the factory or shipping lines have impacted them. Hopefully they'll get the hype train rolling again. They absolutely killed Toy Fair, and I think it's a mistake not to take advantage of that momentum as much as possible. AEW is still a relatively unknown brand, so anything they can do to get this in front of fans and potential buyers would seem smart.

To be fair, while WCT hasn't been hyping them, I've seen the figure pop up on Cody's story multiple times in the past week with preorder links. I can see why they aren't ramping up promotion yet though, even with DoN coming up. Those of us that are going to pre-order were always going to, and didn't need much marketing to anyways. The ones who need the marketing are the audience that is going to buy them from retail stores. Anyone really buying from ringside probably already knows it exists. Series 1 isn't really going to hit stores for likely another 4 months or so given the Ringside date. The consumer who is going to by this in store doesn't have a 4 month attention span. Getting that crowd super hyped up now would probably be a mistake. I can draw reference from another relatively niche but broadening market in board games. A relatively successful company (Fantasy Flight) has historically had problems with hyping up products too far out from launch, and by the time the products hit market, people had already forgotten about them/moved onto the next thing. Whenever they got hit with production delays (Which was frequent), people would just move on to the next thing and interest in the game would die out. Since they were bought out by a larger company (Asmodee), they've timed their product reveals much closer, and I think had more success in keeping interest because of it. Granted, the wrestling figure market is far less saturated than the board game market. However, they aren't just competing with WWE figures, they're competing with video games, board games, other action figure lines like Marvel/DC, Star Wars, etc, etc. Have to be able to time the hype in keeping with when the figures are going to hit shelves. Likewise spoiling series 3 and 4 when series 1 hasn't even come out is just setting themselves up for a backlog later. They'll obviously have more series planned out now while it's fresh and no one has figures, then by say series 8 or 9 when a fair amount of the roster has had a fig and we're doing more reprints, etc. Gotta pace the reveals.
I can see benefit in a small snippet here or there reminding people the line is coming, but I don't think they need to put the hammer down and market the living daylights out of these things yet.

The figures aren’t going to be in stores for four to five months. If there’s nothing around All-In/All-Out/Whatever this year’s August show ends up being called, then I’d be more concerned. As far as series two prototypes and etc., I think you’re wildly overestimating how excited members of the general public would get about something like that.

Let's just hope come SDCC time they dont Chocolate Shark the bed. We should still get plenty of updates on twitter, Instagram, etc even with the show being cancelled. I think we are all are just so eager and anxious for this new line. And in a perfect world when they showed series 1 in Feb at Toy Fair, they should've been shipping around DoN time and then series 2 could've likely been July. But it's just gonna be another 3 months to go for series 1. So till then let's just keep drinking the bubbly and hope you all enjoy DOUBLE OR NOTHING

It had to start with Le Champion and a little bit of the bubbly!

Anybody who has the Jazwares line on their radar already knows DoN is today. AEW doesn't need Jazwares to push their product. If anything, it's the other way around.

Hence, we need some coordination here. There should have been another commercial locked and loaded. Hell, maybe there will be. Doubtful, but we shall see.

We are talking about the same company that aired a commercial promoting the line's announcement during prime time television. Why wouldn't they also want to hype series 2 with some of their biggest stars, and a lot of these guys' first figure? They WANT their brand to do well. All around. So whether the "general public" cares, there still needs to be promotion.

So whether the "general public" cares, there still needs to be promotion. All Out is scheduled for Sept 6, which should be right around the launch of the line. So I'd imagine they'll be working in some commercials and cross promotion as the launch gets closer. But it's still been 3 months since we've had any news on the line (Toy Fair and then the Bubble Jericho on back to back weekends). You don't have to show everything at once, and I'm sure they have a big summer reveal planned. But I greatly prefer the Hasbro model of "small teases of new content every few months" to the Mattel playbook of "massive image gallery dump twice a year. I'm sure something is in the works. But I don't think I'm alone in saying that I would love to have some new content to look forward to right now.

But it makes more sense to do the heavy promotion around AEW’s biggest show of the year in September (and yes, I definitely think the September show is AEW’s biggest show of the year), which is also when figures will be out in stores and actually available for purchase. Doing it now runs the risk of annoying people who will want to buy them IMO. I do agree that it’s surprising we haven’t seen more of series 2 yet, and waiting for SDCC’s original dates is nonsense now. Social media advertising in that regard would be good for them IMO.

It’s 2020. Cross advertising isn’t exactly needed. Collectors are aware of AEW figures existing. Wrestling fans are aware that DoN is tonight.
Social media is the promoting route just about everyone takes. Which is being well covered.
