I had my first cig a few months after my 18th birthday. Freshman year of college. Smoked pretty much non-stop until two years ago. Beat the crap outta my lungs and destroyed my once beautiful singing voice.
In Jan 2018 I made a deal with my ex-boyfriend that we'd both quit tobacco. I'd quit smoking, he'd quit chewing, and we'd hold each other accountable.
I relapsed one day. My birthday in June of 2018. That was the last time a cig ever touched my lips.
This month is my 2 year anniversary. My ex is also 2 years tobacco free.
Honestly? I'm really proud. But I did a heck of a lot of damage in those 15 or so years and I'm still trying to get my lungs back. I kinda doubt by now I ever will.

Since nobody else has done it yet, I’m going to be the smart ass that says, “the best way to quit smoking is to never start.”
Anyway, I don’t smoke, never even tried, or have any intention to. However, I have friends and family who have quit, some cold turkey, others through methods like the patch or gum. I also know of people who were told to quit or else their life was in jeopardy. I’m not sure if that makes it any easier. One thing all these people have in common, they all said quitting, or trying to, is one of the hardest things to do. Props to all of you on here who have done it successfully.

I loved smoking. I smoked for 15 years. It was more of a hobby than a habit and I smoked 30-40 a day. I had 4 cigarettes before I started work and I start work at 6am! I quit in March 2017. I still miss them and now Im unfortunately hooked on nicorette losenges lol but hey, it could be worse and it only costs £7 a week. But I look better, feel better , smell better and am saving at the VERY least £60 a week. It was one of the most difficult things I've done in my entire life - especially if you enjoy a drink. Good luck with this, keep us updated with how you do!

Turning 26 soon and started smoking at 23 or 24 not 100% sure at the moment but I really should quit while its still on the earlier side of things. To those who are quitting I wish you luck.
Damn Army and all those smoke breaks they gave out. You'd be left working constantly by yourself if you didn't go smoke with everyone else.
It's now more of a habit than anything. I find that for me personally I had to normalize going outside just to stand and NOT smoke so that way when I would walk outside as a force of habit my next step wasn't to automatically light a new cigert. I find little things like that work. Honestly though I would sign a paper giving a stranger full rights to snatch cigarettes from my mouth any time of day and destroy them or run off 😆

I’m 30 years old and I’ve been smoking since I was about 14-15. About 85% of my family smokes and As a kid I sworn I never would because my mom and dad both smoke and I used to think ashtrays are nasty (still do even as a smoker) but one day my cousin offered me a cigarette and here I am 15 years later. I’ve never smoked more than a pack a day at most maybe 13. For the last year I’ve only smoked no more than 4 a day unless having a stressful day but would never have a smoke back to back I always wait at least an hour in between. I would love to quit and say how I want to all the time but yet I just don’t 🤦🏻♂️.

I've failed to go longer than a day so far until I got this new type of vape. I'm smoking a solution of 5% nicotine. It's been 2 weeks and I haven't had a single cigarette with no desire to buy a pack. I'm still getting a lower dose of nicotine but I feel great. Breathing is easier (especially deep breaths), with no wheezing. I also don't stink anymore and am already saving oodles of money.
It is kind of cheating but it's a start. Hopefully I can wean myself down to lower and lower nicotine contents.

Have tried multiple times to quit smoking. I used a vape before for almost 2 months and it was going really well until one day I thought that I had left it in work and started to have a freak attack that I had to wait to go back and get it and was on the verge of buying a box. Made me realize quick that I was only swapping one nicotine addiction for another.

Any smokers here? I've been smoking for over 10 years and started at the stupid should-have-known-better age of 20. I'm giving quitting my first honest go. Anyone else here successfully quit? Or unsuccessfully? What's your story? I smoked for almost 20 years. Was up to two packs a day. Been smoke free for a decade. It took numerous attempts to give it up for good; maybe five attempts in total. Chantix did it for me. Now, the smell of cigarettes makes me sick. If you want to quit, you can totally do it. You'll most likely relapse several times, but don't let that discourage you.

I found out my one brother who started smoking again a couple of years ago quit again. My other brother seems to be trying to vape more.

I smoke two packs a day. I have no plans to stop, because compared to all the other crap I put in my body (Without going into specifics, drugs.) Smoking is pretty alright. I have no plans to grow old or start a family or anything like that anyway. I have already seen and done most things in life so, I'm just gonna keep doing what makes me happy.

I am a smoker, and am resigned to the fact that it will be what kills me. I cannot stop. I have tried every method you could possibly name, multiple times, and failed. Except Chantix because the commercial says it can give you suicidal dreams. I got enough of that ish when I'm awake, BRO. Kicking painkillers after 10 years was easier than any attempt Ive ever made at cigarettes. First of all, it is great that you gave up taking painkillers. I know how hard it is as my brother struggled with the same problem. As for smoking, I quit about three years ago. After multiple tries (I smoked for more than 10 years) I finally understood that it was better to quit suddenly. I thought about taking Chantix (you know, the advertisement looked persuasive), but having checked the info about it on the Canadian pharmacy site, I found out that patients have reported a great number of neuropsychiatric side effects, so I decided not to take it. I just replaced smoking with other activities, for example, I started drinking my morning coffee with sweets (I replaced cigarettes with them) and instead of going out to smoke at work I played on my phone Please don’t top old posts.
