Shortly after WM2000. The Late, Great Paul Bearer retired from on-screen performing on WWE to work backstage. It left no closure for the character.
Here are some ways the Paul Bearer Character could have been written off in 2000. Until he eventually returned in 2004
1- DX attacks him shortly after WM2000. & literally throws him into the electrical circuit box. Electrocuting Paul & he is taken out of a stretcher. (Same way Evolution did to Goldust) Leading to Kane screaming in anger & anguish as he stands over his injured father.)
2- Kane turns on Paul Bearer & beats him to a pulp, Leading to him being taken out on a stretcher. (Alternate Way he could set Paul Bearer on fire, Like he did to Jim Ross)
3- Paul Bearer is revealed as Sara's Stalker in 2001, (Which was actually planned) & Undertaker beats him into a bloody mess.
