I don't remember any great matches besides with Chris Benoit. They screwed him just as bad as WWE did in 1997.

Bret vs. DDP, Bret vs. Luger and Bret vs. Sting were all decent matches in 1998 for WCW.
Again, I am not sure how WCW messed that up with Bret Hart. Impressive really how they did. Because you'd think it'd be impossible but they proved that to be wrong.

I think the fact WCW were so invested in the Hogan and Sting storyline really hurt him when he first came in. I would have had him make his debut at Starcade, but have him lay out both Hogan and Sting! His debut was so anti-climatic, he should have came in like a house on fire and just kicked ass right from the get go. I was way more and I mean way more of a WWF guy than a WCW guy, but if there was anything that could have really tipped me over more into WCW it would have been Bret Hart.

WCW are to blame...they had no idea how to use him...they got him because they could. No other reason. BUT? Bret's heart totally wasn't in it either.
Bret should have been put to work dismantling the nWo alongside Sting, DDP etc. There were LOADS of exciting feuds & scenarios but others had to be looked after.
Bret was completely unprepared for a locker room stuffed to the brim with political enemies. Hall & Nash in particular had it in for him from WWF & because the clique still functioned as a unit across 2 feuding feds( which is impressive). Then you Had Hogan, Luger & Savage who were threatened by his arrival.
His intro at Starrcade 97....Oh God. If they wanted him involved it should have been slapping down nWo interference and tanning some jobbers.
His first feud was Flair. I mean...WTF. Both men in the storyline had a common enemy and this crap about him having to earn Flairs respect was absolute nonsense. At least the PPV match was good. Then he joins(kinda) the nWo and spends the rest of the f*ckin year wearing Hogan T-Shirts.
Good God.
The fact that both Sting & Hart were blown off for Hogan vs Savage in early 98 is just god awful.

Well his terrible booking has been talked to death so won’t get into that.
His matches with Benoit were his peak in-ring wise during his WCW run. But he did have a few hidden gems with DDP, Booker T, and Flair during this time (and who could ever doubt El Dandy?). But like others have said these are few and far between and sadly WCW’s crappy overbooking ruined most of his matches.
When Bret first showed up at the end of 1997 him and Sting were a dream match for me. Sadly what we got at at Halloween Havoc 1998 was a disaster.

I loved Bret and was excited to see him in WCW, but even though they were still Hitman matches and still better than most they weren’t what I hoped for. His Owen Tribute match vs Benoit was outstanding though.

I loved the matches he had with Flair,Hennig and Benoit but other than that a total failure of a run.
You have a talent like Bret and you waste em away pretty much.SMH

Man did they misuse Bret in WCW. It seemed like the only thing they had for Bret at the time was turning on people every other nitro. One minute he's WCW, the next minute he's NWO. One minute he hates Hulk Hogan, the next minute he loves him. One minute he's friends with Sting, the next he turns on him. I remember thinking to myself at the time, damn Bret pick a side already. It was frustrating as a fan of his to watch him during this time.

Don't forget that! lol Bret was given a really solid storyline by the WWF going in WCW. Come on, Vince "screwed" him and WCW could have used that momentum RIGHT when Bret came in. But nope. They had Bret used as a referee in a filler match on a PPV. His fate was sealed right then and there.

I don't understand why they didn't have Bret lead a rival faction against the NWO. You already had Bulldog and Neidhart, there were ties there to Jericho and Benoit.

According to most people, Hogan kept shooting down any scenario that involved him and Bret. If they had a faction with Bret as the leader, and they were going after the NWO, eventually Hogan and Bret would have to face each other and Hogan wouldn't go with that.

I was a kid at the time and his booking didn't bother me, I was just excited to see Bret in WCW. Looking back however, his run was flawed and a wrestler of his status shouldn't have been feuding for the US which was beneath him.
However there were some great matches like his ones with Booker, Benoit, Sting and DDP.

At the very least, keeping Bret away from Neidhart and Bulldog like they did didn't do any of those guys any favours.
