Does anyone else really want them to stop calling this a continuation of "The New Era" and just suck it up and admit that, ever since FOX happened, it's been something else?
I mean, not even getting into the surreal nature of COVID programming, the current product missed PG by leagues. I don't care what they try to label things, you can't have a PG product with superstars screaming the F-Word on PPVs every month. Heck, they're even stopped censoring "S**t". The programming has gotten extremely violent compared to pre 2020, with several instances of straight up attempted murder. (Need I point out them throwing two guys off the roof at MitB, and then Rey the next night on RAW). The idea of Seth Rollins as the Messiah could be considered every bit as controversial as the Ministry of Darkness was back in the day for both similar and opposite reasons.
Seriously, just in general. Everything is turned up a notch from where it was before. Sometimes even two or three notches. I've heard stories that, back in mid 2019, Vince had stated that he was going to change the programming, so why are we still listing this as the same "Era".
I dunno, call it the "Shake-Up Era" Call it the "Edgier Era" Even call it the "FOX Era"
Just stop calling it the "New Era"

I lost count of the 'Eras' after the PG Era. How many have there been since?

The "Eras" according to WWE
"Golden Era" - 80's to early 90's "New Generation" - Early 90's to Mid 90's "Attitude Era" - Mid 90's to 2001 "Ruthless Aggression Era" - 2002 to 2008 "PG Era" - 2008 to 2013 "Reality Era" - 2014 to 2016 "New Era" - 2016 to Present
IMHO, "New Era" ended October 4th, 2019. This is something different now.

I lost count of the 'Eras' after the PG Era. How many have there been since? There was a 2 year period from 2014-2016 where every episode of Raw revolved around HHH and Stephanie McMahon and HHH tried to push it as the "Reality Era" in a promo even though there was nothing reality about it and it didnt take off. It was like a transitional period between the PG Era and the New Era/Roman Empire.

I don't understand why everything has to be called an era.

I don't understand why everything has to be called an era. It's to identify the generations of wrestling fans. The kids who grew up watching the PG era are now in college or just graduated. I feel old. βΉπ

Honestly, despite the fact that I love the concept of "The New Era" (and how it's entire existence revolves around Shane), the notion of 2015-2020 being "The Roman Empire" fits so much better.
That said, I read abouT an interview where Vince specifically stated in July 2019 that he'd be doing a "relaunch" with an edgier product, I believe to coincide with the FOX deal. Hence why I said the current era started with the beginning of FOX Smackdown.
Also, for my own personal reasons, if the "New Era" began with Shane's return, it makes sense that ends with his removal. Plus, for the last year and a half or so, Shane was more prominent of a figure than Roman was (with horrible results). It's sort of sad as well because, after returning from treatment, people actually liked Roman. But then, maybe that's why people liked him. It wasn't as forced. I'm so happy that I watch the shows sparingly or I'd have grown to hate Shane as quickly as I hated Roman when HE was shoved down our throats. As it is, he's quickly being replaced in my mind by Kevin Owens who, IMHO, is much better in every single aspect possible.
So yeah, I could go either way on this. PG/Roman Empire/COVID or PG/Reality/New/FOX. The biggest advantage that the latter has is that it's the closer to the "Official" one, which frankly means nothing.

What was so βnewβ about the new era? Its a stupid name somebody came up with when they were too lazy to come up with a better or more appropriate name for the period.

They even showed a bloody Orton last night as well. Despite the whole covid situation 2020 WWE has been pretty good and some of the feuds and storylines have been enjoyable.
Rewind to a decade ago the product was mediocre and unwatchable.

Rewind to a decade ago the product was mediocre and unwatchable. Actually, from what I've seen, Randy is doing some of his best stuff ever right now. And I've heard a bunch of other people say that as well. I like the whole idea of him hating to hurt people. Like, he'll destroy you, then he'll feel bad about it. I did hear someone say that, for certain people (read: women) it rings a bit too close to home. But for me, I like this new angle. It's interesting. Plus, I dig the cinematic stuff. It's refreshing. Honestly? It's as though COVID convinced them that they needed to try again.

I divide the WWE into 3 eras.
The beginning of time to WrestleMania V - the Golden Era (the era before I became a Professional Sports Wrestling Entertainment fan)
WrestleMania V to WrestleMania XXX - the McMahonism Era (the era when I was practicing McMahonism religiously)
WrestleMania XXX to present - the Network Era (the era when the historic library and the original programming on their streaming service became better that what was happening in the present)

Call it the Vault Era, since between the Saudi shows and the FOX deal, Vince is filling that vault up with all the cash he can get his hands on.
