why are old threads such a big deal?

My guess would be just to avoid newer threads getting pushed down. As for the others it’s usually with good reasons, arguing and the like.

I never understood it either. So they are old threads, does that mean newer people here can't add their opinions to it? And if newer people do make a thread about something that was done already, there is always that one who says "Do a search! We already had this! DUHHHH!!!"

If it's such a crime, maybe at the end of every month just delete the previous months threads for good so they can never be found again.

On the Lounge? They're not. This used to be one of the most active boards on WFigs, but those days are long, long gone. It'd be one thing if The Lounge was the hotbed of activity it was in the early to mid 2000s, or even as active as the WFT or WWE boards, but when the oldest thread on page 1 hasn't seen a response since the beginning of May, locking anything that comes up from below, especially when it's, more often than not, somebody from those early days like Eternal or Chase chiming in after a prolonged absence, just comes off as petty.

The "it pushes other threads down the line" argument loses even more stock when you consider that the locked thread is just going to sit there until however many new threads, which this board isn't exactly swimming in, are able to push it back down.

Easily one of this board's weirdest preoccupations.

15 years ago, I'd say I get it. I modded The Lounge back in 2002 or 2003 when the mod slots were rotated on a monthly basis, and at the time, it was something that required pretty frequent attention in order to do right. I'm on these boards in the background of whatever's going on enough to know that that simply isn't the case anymore. That's not a knock on the boards themselves or the individuals manning them or anything, it's just the state of the internet today. Social media killed the message board star. I can't even remember the last time anyone had a serious go at legitimately upsetting the flow of this place.

I can't speak for my fellow mods or the admins of this forum, but in my experience, it's not the act of bumping old threads that is the problem, it's the inevitable responses pointing out said act which quickly derail any hopes of continuing the original discussion.

For the past couple of years, I've been locking threads six months or older on the Mattel board because it was suggested to me by a fellow board member who thought it might cut down on the number of threads like that, and it has.

Most of the time, an old thread would get bumped and the person who initiated it never had anything substantial to add the discussion. It was almost always a one word or one sentence reply, and then everyone would jump on their case about it. I got tired of cleaning up those threads. There was only so much I could do to make a five year old thread appear presentable without addressing the elephant in the room.

I've always said I'm willing to unlock an old thread if the OP or someone else has a legitimate reason for doing so. If someone wants to create a new thread to reference an old topic, that's fine with me. I don't want to get in the way of discussion, but sometimes decisions have to be made so that we can look out for the best interests of the board.

That's fair. Ideally, that's where I'd want us to be. Self-governing, so to speak. The hardest part would be to convince everyone that bumping is not the work of Satan lol.

The last thread locked on the Classic board was a stupid post that had absolutely nothing to do about Classic wrestling. Nor did the responses. And the one prior to that was someone bumping a 10 year old post to answer a question that didn’t get a replay by the prison the question was asked of. And honestly besides posts attacking other members are the only type of posts I lock.

I mean if you need to go 3 or 4 pages deep on the board to find a topic to reply to means that topic was talked out at least 1-2 months ago by the members already so let those threads die. That or start a new thread so members won’t message us to complain about people bumping old threads.
