I’m watching an episode of nitro from 98(I try to watch some classic wrestling instead of today’s raw) and on this show he went 121-0. His streak would end by the end of the year, but was it too soon? I think, and Bobby Heenan has said this in shoot interviews, that it should have lasted longer and Kevin Nash shouldn’t have ended it. It should have gone at least until September 99(2 year mark). I mean did Hogan and Flair need to win the title in 1999?

Goldberg could have went through so many guys before losing.
Benoit, Hall, Hart, DDP as a heel, Bigelow, Steiner, Bagwell, Booker T, Luger, Flair, Piper, heel Sting, heel Savage, Sid, etc.
Nash could have booked him and Golberg for Starrcade 99. The guy that beat Goldberg had to be a big deal. In the late 90s, Kevin Nash was a big deal. He was tall, strong, and charismatic.
However, in a way WCW put themselves in a corner with how they had an undefeated wrestler being WCW World Champion. No matter who he lost to it would seem like the wrong time and the wrong opponent.

I'm no Goldberg fan but that was a lame way for him to not only drop the belt but lose his streak.
I didn't mind Nash winning considering how dominate he was in WW3 a month prior to get the shot.So in that sense it made sense but they could've booked it wayyyyyyy better.Have em eat three powerbombs then get pinned. That wouldve been more ideal.Have the rematch the following month with Nash now in the heel role after combining the NWO factions as one with Hogan. No finger poke of doom here BTW.
But a taser of all things?Terrible.

shoulda kept it going longer for sure. hated that nash was the guy only because i know he was doing alot of the booking and of course he felt he should be the one to do it.

If I was booking Goldberg, I'd of never had him lose. Give him the run of the century.

I was a WCW fan back then, and I liked Goldberg too. I have always felt the timing was right, he had started to grow old for me and my brothers, we knew he’d win and it was now about who will beat him finally rather then the streak. Like, it got to a point where it was disappointing seeing him win and we were just waiting on somebody to beat him. Undertakers streak kinda got to that same place where you want to see him continue his streak up until a certain point, and then it flips and it’s about just seeing somebody finally beat him.
When Nash beat him at Starrcade, I can’t speak for everyone but in my house we were over the moon that we saw the match somebody beat him haha. It was like seeing a shooting star at the time
Wrestling back then also wasn’t so scrutinized as a kid. Like we weren’t sitting there all like, ugh Nash booked himself to go over! We wanted Nash to win haha, in our eyes it was believable that Nash could beat Goldberg

The house show was a better show than Starcade 98. haha, I always joke with my brother because he’ll say “Starrcade is reduced to a house show now” and I always say, well it wasn’t booked much better in WCW honestly haha That show never came off as the WrestleMania of WCW and it was always puzzling to me. Like, they would have advertised matches featuring Nash, one of their top draws and the match just wouldn’t happen haha, like WTF? The one thing I can’t criticize WWE for is scheduling Michaels/ Hart on WrestleMania and then just not having it A year after Hogan got to WCW, he wasn’t even on Starrcades card. But yea, WCW always treated Starrcade as just another show and the one time they put hype into it, they had a main event between Sting/ Hogan that was a squash match. They never could get that show right

It wasn't too soon. Watch the crowd pop at Starrcade 98. And to the point of Flair-Hogan...In terms of PPV buyrates if you look at the top ten buyrates in WCW history only once did a Goldberg main event PPV make the list, it was Starrcade 98. A PPV that did a better buyrate? ing SuperBrawl 99 with Hogan-Flair in the main event for the title. That's right Hogan-Flair for the title IN 19 MOTHER IN 99 did better numbers than Goldberg during his streak in the main event.

It's pathetic how Goldberg wa sbooked as champion
Faces Curt Henning at July PPV, which I like Curt but was he really #1 contender material?
Road Wild he won the NWO battle Royal
and didnt compete at fall brawl or world war 3

Completely off topic, but related to Starrcade, Starrcade lost all meaning when Hogan defended against The Butcher.
Ed Leslie in the main event of the biggest show of the year for the World Heavyweight Championship....

Road Wild he won the NWO battle Royal and didnt compete at fall brawl or world war 3This was done on purpose by the bookers. Terry Taylor said in a shoot interview that he had noticed signs of Goldberg losing steam and more and more fans started going against Goldberg. So the idea was to have Goldberg only wrestle at 4 or 5 pay per views a year. The idea was to build a heel up for three months to feed to Goldberg at the PPV. Taylor quit when he couldn't handle the politics so the entire thing fell apart. I know some people are mad that it was Nash that broke the streak but honestly he and the Wolfpac were super over in 98. People wanted to cheer Nash. The only other person that I can think of that would have gotten more heat for beating Goldberg than Nash, would have been Hogan(Main event talent, I'm not talking Ice Train level talent). Let's say Sting or Bret Hart replaces Nash and the same thing is done at Starrcade 98, people today would be talking differently. But because it was Nash they hate it. The guy was over though. Wolfpac was huge.

Goldberg's streak should never have ended in WCW. Undertaker should never have lost at WrestleMania. I would have loved to have seen Goldberg vs Undertaker at WrestleMania, if both streaks were still going.

The streak could have gone on a little longer. But I think eventually the fans would have turned on Goldberg like they did on Hogan towards the end of his run in the WWF. They were tired of Hulk always winning and pretty much knew the outcome would always be that. But yeah, lame way to lose his first match and title, especially to Nash. It should have been Hogan getting his win and title back.

the problem was that Goldberg had already beaten Nash twice, decisively...
Nash was not the man for the job. Sid? maybe.

I had no objection to the streak ending or the way it ended. It wasnt clean & created a WTF moment.. After watching Starrcade 1998 I was intrigued to see what was going to happen next with Hall etc in the mix.
But then it all went to absolute sh*t. Just like the year before with Sting? Bischoff murdered the momentum they had built in cold blood with the fingerpoke of doom & the feud became Flair vs Hogan with Goldberg nowhere to be seen. The year before it became Savage vs Hogan with Sting sidelined.
Even with the Fingerpoke of Doom it was salvageable. You just needed to have Bill slaughter the nWo. First up he destroys the B team systematically and you never see those guys in nWo colors again.
Hall at Souled Out. Hall was in bits in real life & the hiding he took here would be a good way to write him off TV & give him a break.
Before Superbrawl you feed him Luger & Bagwell on Nitro. Steiner escapes any involvement...you build that as a dream match. Nash gets his @ Superbrawl.
@ Uncensored Goldberg beats Hogan in Cage match. Goldberg as WCW champ rules the roost. You can turn Hogan face after this and feed him to heel Steiner.
You still have DDP & Bret as top flight heels for Bill to contend with...BUT what you build towards is Goldberg vs Steiner @ Bash at The Beach. There Bill drops the belt to Steiner. Steiner beats Hogan, Nash etc on PPVs running up to a rematch with Goldberg which would be hotter than hell because youve kept them away from one another.
WCW had the tools & the talent....just zero know how.

what about Bret Hart ending the streak ? At Starrcade 98? The entire latter half of the year would have to be changed...also his political enemy Nash was the booker...so he HAD to end the streak.
