Hey guys, this is more directed towards our older contingent, but do any of you all also feel the world passed you by? I mean, your insterests are no longer what interests most people, you like old technology, or just old ways of doing things, and people don't use them anymore or are actively trying to erase them? Maybe something as simple as the internet has less interest for you becuase many forums you wrote in are gone, and you don't use social media; the places you read are disappearing, and the places you bought stuff are either gone or over your budget? Maybe your city has changed so much you don't recognize it, and even the folks act differently now, like less friendly?
I am an old soul, so being nearly 33 isn't reflective of my style and personality. It just seems like I everytime I turn around, something I guess I took for granted would always be there, is gone. It just stinks to me, and frankly feels like oldschoolers are being banished, for lack of a better term, because what we are isn't wanted anymore. I know change is inevitable, but it can coexist rather than replace....newer isn't always better. I thought my city, at least, would always have its same essence and lovability, but no.
I apologize if this seems disjointed, or rambling. I tried to write this several times of the past couple weeks, but nothing was ever succinct enough. I hope the folks that this is geared towards understand its meaning. Cheers all.

getting older is definitely a surreal situation at times. I think it's best to be open for change on the things you can be, but it can feel like a losing battle when the world is seemingly going one way and you're still going the only way you've ever known.
I think the ability to change is very important for longevity as a human. the more stubborn we are to hold onto what has been, the less we are a factor in the now.

I’m only 27 but I have trouble connecting with what’s popular now. I’m not on social media period but I think Tik ToK is the dumbest platform I’ve ever seen. I also have never seen the appeal of the game Fortnite. And all these dance moves that kids come up with seem like the most cringe concepts. It’s especially worse when people in their 30s or 40s try to do them. That’s a big yikes from me.

I get that.
It's probably why I still like watching shows from the 90s, collecting hockey cards from the 90s, collecting wrestling figures from the 90s. Just simpler times for everything.
The only thing I really ever adapted with is the change of music. I like some of the bands I have heard in the past 10 years or so, but my vinyl collection is 90% music I listened to in the 90s and early 2000s.

I’m 32 and it’s a mixed bag for me. Sometime I feel like I’m in touch with current stuff and other times I’m just lost. My brother is much younger and he’s very into following the current political climate on social media. I’m not gonna turn this into a political post. All I’m gonna say is when he tells me about stuff I’m usually like “Are people just making up words now? What language are they speaking?”
Celebrities also make me feel really old. I see articles online about stuff that a ton of people consider a big deal and a lot of the time I’m like “Who are these people? When did they get famous? What do they even do?”

I caught the tail end of that. I didn’t have a computer at home until I was like 8. Even for a while after that, a lot of my friends didn’t have one. I didn’t have a cell phone until high school, and I didn’t even want it at first. It was strictly for emergencies. I didn’t have a smart phone until college. I was still on dial-up internet until high school too. The only reason my parents finally upgraded was so I could do homework. Before that, I was only allowed online after 9:00 because if I connected to the internet, the phone didn’t work. Speaking of smart phones and internet access, it’s completely destroyed news and journalism. These days all you need to be considered a “reliable source” is an opinion and an internet connection. It’s so much harder these days to trust what you see in the media. I’ve probably mentioned this at some point before, but the price of action figures is shocking too. I remember when the increase to $7 for a figure was controversial. Now standard figures are like $20-$30 and I’m like “Well at least the prices are reasonable.”

I'm young but I grew up differently than every kid around my age did. The leading reason was because my dad was in his early 40's when I was born.

I don't really understand some new words and phrases. Like "stan" or "fit" meaning outfit. That's not what fit is. Fit is when you see a hot woman and you say to your mate "she's well fit."
Recently I've been looking at buying a new iPod to replace my 12 year old one. Still works, I just need more memory. But apparently this idea is outdated now and people prefer to either put all their songs on their phone, or use streaming services. Well I just want a dedicated device for my albums so that my phone is free for other things.

I’m 27 but I got my first computer when I was 8 or 9, got my first cell phone when I was 15 and I didn’t have an iPhone until I was in my 20s. Though it wasn’t because they didn’t exist it was more so just for financial reasons.

Yeah, I suppose I miss some of the old forums and chat rooms I used to frequent back in the 90's and early aughts...but what I really miss is having time. There's always so much going on that I just don't have time to do things anymore.
I miss when ten hours was a hugging eternity. Now I say: "crap! I only have ten hours until (blank)."

One thing that probably shows my disconnect is how much I refuse to be a part of the streaming world. I don't like spotify, I'd rather organise everything on itunes. I don't like netflix, I'd rather own my movies. I'm also generally disenfranchised with a lot of what counts for popular culture these days. Maybe I'm stuck in the past somewhat, but the quality of mainstream music, films, television, even wrestling now is utterly horrific. I don't really understand some new words and phrases. Like "stan" or "fit" meaning outfit. That's not what fit is. Fit is when you see a hot woman and you say to your mate "she's well fit." I know what you mean. I miss so many things that were there when I was a child/teen that are now long gone and forgotten. It may even mean more to me than the average person. I really do not want to get into this too much, it's very difficult for me, but my childhood, especially during my teen years was... lets just say "not good" at home. So my escape was going out to movies, skating, malls and so on. The Malls are still around but the stores are not the same of course. It's one of the reasons I love the Mall though, it always brings back good memories and it's a stress reliever for me. Even the Skating place is still there but I have not went back since my kids had parties there and such. Many of the other places are long gone, even some places we used to go to when my kids were kids. I miss so much, I wish I would have done so many things differently but I am very lucky and fortunate to have the life I have.
It's just life though, "the more that things change the more they stay the same". Change is inevitable. Just make the best of "now". "Yesterday is gone, tomorrow may never come".

I’m mostly a “shut-in” when it comes to media. Physical changes are the things I notice most. Like new buildings, neighborhoods, retail/food industry changes, roads and intersections, etc. I guess in some places you can call it gentrification but in some other places it’s way beyond that near where I live.
The value of money annoys me a lot. I started trading some cash for gold a while back and I’m glad I did

It’s already passed me by. I’m already a curmudgeon and I’m not even 40. I hate the direction the world is headed socially (aside from homosexuality losing its taboo status and racial equality being closer than ever, in spite of resistance), politically, culturally (I ing hate woke and cancel culture), and basically all other ways. This is not the world that I grew up in, and I miss it. I hate 95% of people, and the other 5 I am indifferent to. There’s no hope for the future. If it weren’t for nostalgia I’d have killed myself by now. At least I can live in the past, fantasizing about how things used to be. Quick note, I was watching AEW the other night, and I found myself thinking like Cornette. Then I realized that none of this was aimed at me, it was aimed at a younger crowd. Looking at it from that perspective made me loosen up and enjoy it for what it is.
