Is this proof that if a show is good viewership will go up despite any excuses(it's too hot, too cold, too many sports, pandemic, etc)? It takes a lot of steam out of that argument for sure. We'll have a better idea of what moved numbers when quarter hour breakdowns come out, but I think it has a lot to do with the Road Rules competition on MTV ending last week. I'd guess that a lot of p18-49 went there and came back. These numbers are a bigger deal than people think, especially if the retain viewership and continue to grow.

norman smiley and fit finlay I would rather see both of them over Darby. But seriously I like most of the aew roster. I wouldn't mind Darby if he was lower down the card but they have so many guys that should be in the world title picture over him. not an unfair take, and one of the reasons conversation is actually interesting in this board - diverse opinions.

For real though, those two were great! Legit left that match more impressed with them than Cardona. - The 12 man tag was awesome and I love Cabana being with the Dark Order while still doing his goofy shtick. - Between the promo and match this is the Moxley everyone keeps telling me about and I hope it continues. - I expected to hate that debate but it sort of grew on me. The eye rolling I had planned for that was just saved for Swole vs. Reba. - I've noticed there's a lot of drama in AEW regarding cars. Vandalizing Sue's, Moxley & Jericho, FTR's truck getting stolen, Cage body slamming Moxley on one. There's gotta be more I'm missing.

Wasn't a car but Sammy getting run over by the golf cart was the nastiest looking bump of them all.

Part of me does, because that means that they’ll have to step their game up. AEW getting pre-covid numbers is hella encouraging! I’m interested in seeing both AEW & NXT numbers when Dynamite shifts nights this month.

Honestly, EB back on TNT was special for me. I get that it’s a moment that wasn’t for every fan, even though I’m sure plenty of people can grasp the magnitude of the moment, but for someone who was such a passionate WCW fan in the late 90s, incredible.
Not enough emphasis is being made about how well AEW has gotten OC and Darby over. They use them perfectly in a way that makes you love them even more week-to-week. We’re getting that with MJF, too, but I feel that’s more of them understanding his talent level and just stepping back enough to let him hit home runs.
I really like how Best Friends are the Step Brothers of AEW. It’s not a joke to them, so it’s not a joke to the audience. An angle over a van could be so dumb, but I feel like it’s great tv instead.

Some great points! I’m ok with Eric being a one off surprise. My concern is that he’d become an ongoing part of the show. If he turns up from time to time and understands that the show doesn’t revolve around him, I’d be fine with that. Glad you got to see your guy back on TNT! It’s amazing that they turned a guy in Orange Cassidy (someone I had no desire to watch in the indies due to his schtick) into a credible threat and one of the most fun wrestlers on the roster. One day, Tony’s going to pour proverbial gasoline on Darby and his rise to the too is going to be a blast and well earned. Best Friends are great. I like that they’re a legit tag team in the ring yet so goofy outside of it. So happy for these guys to have this shot on national tv.

That's gotta be a good sign for the new TNT exec. I'm guessing our alternate dynamite weeks are definitely trials to see how viable the second program would be in those slots, so hopefully we can deliver as fans and get that next show on tv.

I think it's something that other network executives are paying attention to as well. TNT is paying AEW a modest amount for a weekly show. USA and FOX (especially FOX) are paying much, much, much more for WWE programming. It's too early to tell AEW's projection given they're only a year old. If WWE's trajectory keeps dropping, contract renewals for both companies (maybe even Impact & others) could get really interesting. There's a possibility AEW could get a better offer from another network, but again it's too soon to say with any certainty.

I think this is a little presumptuous, but this could be the start of something.
