So I just watched Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Shane Douglas for the ECW Title at November 2 Remember 1997, really good match. Meltzer only gave the darn thing a star and three quarters! What the hell?! Anyone else a fan of this match? What gives, Dave?!

I for one never cared for Meltzer and his ratings.
As for this match I enjoyed it. I liked the fact Bigelow got a title run during this time even though it was brief.

I am a huge Shane Douglas fan, so therefore I loved the match!
First of all, I hate Meltzer. The guy is a douche. He got rich and famous off saying how great a wrestling match is without ever stepping foot in the ring and wrestling.
So as for the match...
It was awesome!!
When Shane belly to belly suplexed Bigelow into the table/chair combo and the referee counted to 3, the fans in that Pittsburgh dome all jumped and screamed in unison and it was amazing!! There was no way Shane could have been a heel that night, he had every single fan on his side there.
The match was fun, it looked like a legit main event, it reminded me of matches you would have seen 10 years earlier. Dave Meltzer can suck it, and go beat his meat to Kenny Omega and give him a 35 star rating for Kenny just walking to the ring.

There's one board where if you post this type of hatred towards Meltzer you would be banned in a heartbeat. LOL. He's too sarcastic and negative to certain wrestlers for me to take him seriously as a journalist. Someone on facebook last night posted "fans have been paying for too long for his newsletter dedicated to plans changing" and he's absolutely right. I was a subscriber from 1996-1998 and even as a kid hated seeing the rumor, innuendo and fake news from issue to issue. I finally ended the subscription when he mentioned Bradshaw and Windham being within months apart in age. Even pre Wikipedia I could tell that was false. I remember it like yesterday. I was in a doctor's office, reading the issue, read what he wrote and thought "OH COME ON!" and shortly after stopped subscribing.

That was a great match. There are a lot of matches I enjoyed that wouldn’t get high ratings by Meltzer. The man has an unhealthy obsession with Japanese wrestling.

There are countless people who have never wrestled a match that have been great minds when it comes to the wrestling business. So that argument holds no weight. Also I'm willing to bet you have never watched one Kenny Omega match.

I think it is more a case of promoters actually changing their plans based on what is reported in the Observer. Obviously this isn't always the case, but alot of the time, more so today, the sources are spot on or very close to with what ends up of happening. The problem with the "plans change" argument, is that alot of the people that push this narrative don't actually read the WON to begin with. I can see what people don't like Dave due to how petty he can be on Twitter, where he feeds the trolls far too often. Also the way Bruce and Eric describe him on the podcasts will plant the seed in many guys minds that may only know of the guy from what they hear from others and not read or listen to for themselves.

Never really cared for ratings of any kind when it comes to wrestling. One person will like a match the other will hate it. Its like Film reviews...watch it if you want and make up your own mind...
As for the match in question? yeah I enjoy it a lot. BB & Douglas had great chemistry and were great workers. For me Bam Bam is the best big man wrestler ever. Guy could work with any one & any style.

I've given up on what Dave thinks. The guy said Nick Jackson is the Bobby Eaton of his era. HAHAHA, that one really got me. I've had way too many nonsensical arguments with him to consider him credible anymore. Rae a match whatever you want, it's subjective

I have seen Kenny Omega wrestle. Every Wednesday when AEW airs. And all he ever does is runs fast, knees guys in the head and then does a weird electric chair move. Is he good?? Sure. But I just think Meltzer's favourite wrestler is Kenny Omega, so of course he is gonna give him 5 stars all the time.
I wouldn't say Meltzer has a great mind for the business. If you read Bret Hart's book he wrote years ago, Bret states that he and among like 99% of the wrestlers hated Meltzer and didn't want him around.
