Wrestling has never been "cool" since I've been a fan. I personally think that the mainstream popularity of MMA has made wrestling uncool and it'll never be popular again. Yea I agree with you about how MMA has changed public perception on wrestling. Back in the 90s MMA was still in its infancy so the casual fan could still somewhat believe in the way wrestling was presented. (at least in the New Generation era) Now when you watch UFC and someone gets in a submission they tap immediately and then you turn on wrestling and they sit in that same submission for 30-60 seconds while they try and get to the rope. In reality they would have had their arm or leg broken in a matter of seconds. I think WWE has tried their best with Lesnar and Rousey to bring in that UFC feel but its just not the same.

Everyone called it “gay or me gay” for watching it past 2010. Broke my little 10 year old. Arguably 2010 has few proud moments.

I never looked at wrestling as uncool ever in my life just because I look at it as if I like cool if other people don't than that's their opinion so I'm fine with that. But I will admit one thing I remember in my freshmen year of high school I would talk to a friend of mine about wrestling alot during class. That lasted for a long time until my senior year of high school when I tried talking to him again about wrestling he just "you still watch that?". So I guess some people grow out of it or think it's "uncool", but to me I will always like it no matter if others don't.

Around 2008-09 for me, I never really talked wrestling with anyone I knew at school and just watched it for myself. A lot of people were into video games or NFL at the time.

Wrestling was never really "uncool" but there was a line on some things you had to tread. Ive always enjoyed wrestling by myself. Its been "my thing" but once I got into HS wearing wrestling shirts & jeans every day just didnt really work out. Changed the way I dressed & started playing real sports and the girls came shortly after. That was when I realized wrestling needed to be a private/personal thing. Hotties didnt want a guy in jeans and an nWo shirt

I've always been an outcast for watching it so it became normal for me. Luckily I met people who were into the same thing so it didn't feel as lonely anymore. It's always a great feeling when you find another wrestling fan while they are hiding it. It's like discovering something top secret.

Had a buddy I would see every now and then and we would always talk wrestling When i was 13 I happened to see him and walked up and said "i see WWE won" he looked at me and said "what" i said "WWE won, they beat WCW and ECW" he just looked at me and said "what you talking about" then I explained the Alliance/Invasion storyline and he said something like "oh yea I knew WCW died but I stopped watching around then" and everyone else just stared at me and said "you still watch wrestling"
Then I realized yep, wrestling isnt cool now
In high school, I was always the "weird kid" who loved wrestling and comic books. Most of my life, that has meant looks of bewilderment aimed at me.

Definitely noticed kids at school stopped talking about wrestling 2001-2002, mostly after the Invasion.
And I realised that those casual fans don't care much about the in-ring action, they came for the characters and stories, not for the wrestling. That's for die-hard fans, and those tend to stick around or drop off slowly, like I did.
I don't have the patience to watch loooooong matches that have multiple false-finishes and finishers, and I dislike wish-fulfillment 160lbs guys trying to mix it with 220lbs "heavyweights". Wrestling's changed too much and I may be "stuck in the past", but that's my perogrative.

Wrestling has always been cool thanks to Hulk Hogan brother. It is cool that he put both WWE and WCW on the map and selling out arenas all over the world.

I started watching in the 80s. So it was the coolest thing in the world, the most uncool thing, the coolest, and then uncool in pop culture, all within in my lifetime so far.

I wish more people my age still remembered how cool it was during the MNW. 15 years ago people who only watched casually still remembered and talked about how good the A.E. was. Now it has been bad for so long that people have forgotten how cool and popular it used to be. It’s a bummer because they associate all eras of wrestling with the current WWE product.
