I wasn't sure where to post this. But you guys remember the old Toyfare magazines? They had a good mix of different toy genres with A LOT of love shown to Ringside and wresting figures in general. the past week, I've come up with this idea of a digital/physical magazine that kind of recaptured that love of the old toy magazine from yester-year. Here is an issue back cover and front cover that I cooked up: My question is, do you think this idea is still something collectors would like in 2020? The potential exclusive interviews and recaps of news from that month and the month coming up. I see some video game ones revived by people. And I know toy collecting has become so much more popular nowadays compared to 2010) that I feel an ebook or physical magazine like this could be something cool. Maybe even have some input from awesome writers on this board page if I end up going through with this endeavor! Let me know your thoughts!

It would be a cool idea, but if it’s going to be for wrestling figures it shouldn’t be on this board because this is for non wrestling toys.

Yeah seeing as that I wanted it to be a mix of all toys, I just guessed that this was the place to put it. Just so happens this issue cover has a wrestling cover haha. Not all will be this way.

I can't speak to its potential for success, but I can say I loved ToyFare magazine (and Wizard before it). I don't want you to waste your time, but I like the idea.

The main issue I’d see with it is there’s already tons of free media already doing this and they don’t take up any space. A physical magazine would probably only appeal to people really looking to collect and keep issues. A digital version would be competing with everything that’s already out there. A print version would probably cost more than it’s worth to produce. A digital presence would be the better option as the barriers are fairly low, and the creator community seems to be fairly welcoming and supportive of newcomers.

I love this idea. I'm an old school ToyFare/Wizard magazine reader and miss these so much. If you want help or a writter I'm in.

I've actually had this idea cooking in the back of my mind for a couple months. I've been in the process of acquiring and digitizing EVERY Toyfare, Lees Toy Review, and Action Figure Digest. Literally over 650+ magazines. I don't know if its because I've spent so much time doing that, but I feel like there could be a market for a once a year-type issue. Maybe around Christmas time? I dont know..

So I love the input from everyone! The first issue is already underway with many toys and customs being showcased. I would want to bring people on if they want to write stuff, but wouldn't feel right since I have no way to compensate them right now. But I'm 100% open to it. I'm excited to share this project with you guys and gals! May turn this into an update thread eventually!

I really miss Toy Shop. It was like the grown-up version of getting the Sears Christmas Wish Book catalog.

I gotta try to get my hands on one of these ASAP. JC Motors Me too! Remember those awesome mail in exclusives they had over the years? I think that is what I miss the most from them. And the Twisted ToyFare Theaters were also GOLD.

I think I still have the Special 50th issue laying around somewhere in my Attic. What killed the magazine was price guides could be easily found online. I didn't like the fact that over the years certain toy line prices would disappear from the magazine to make room for newer stuff.

I remember the exclusives. I have the Faker from the 200X Masters of the Universe line. I missed the boat when he was available, so I had to get him well after the fact. I bought one loose at a convention and one in box on eBay, both within the last 5 years or so.
I might have a Wonder Man 5" and Bullseye 5" from Toybiz that may have been exclusives, too.

They went out of business in 2008. My buddy says the internet killed ToyFare Sad but true. If you want to feel nostalgic, try getting an issue or two online. Hand to my heart- when I read this on the inside cover , I felt gutted. Dear Advertiser: We at F+W Publications continuously analyze our publishing strategy to determine if we are meeting your needs and Company goals. We take into consideration the marketplace we serve and the opportunities available for each of our magazine titles. After much analysis and deliberation, we have determined to cease publication of Toy Shop Magazine, effective with the March 2008 edition. Please know that F+W will continue to serve your needs through our popular online home for collectors, Collect.com: Find What You Keep. I encourage you to work with your Advertising Sales Representative to reach this audience and create a marketing strategy that aligns with your business goals. I stopped buying ToyFare when I found out they were owned by the same family that own T0y W!z. I couldn’t justify supporting the magazine that “set the Secondary prices” that TW was selling their stuff at.

I thought Wizard Entertainment owned them From what I was told by someone who worked at ToyFare magazine Gareb Shamus was given ToyFare and Kenny Shamus Toy W!z when their parents retired. I think there’s a third brother but I’m not sure what he was given.
