Conrad Thompson mentioned on his recent podcast about The Rock in 1999 that two years in a row, for two different stars, Foley was the first PPV opponent for a new world champ. I’m 1998, right after Austin got the strap, the WWF gave him Foley as a dance partner. In late ‘98 into early ‘99, Rock got Foley. But it goes beyond that. In early 2000, Triple H got Foley. And any guesses who Undertaker’s first PPV opponent was after he won the strap from Sid at WM13? That’s right, Foley. So which was your favorite? Mine is definitely Triple H in 2000. Love all the matches those two had that year. Awesome stuff.

triple h gets my vote too. that feud was so intensely personal, especially as they'd feuded back in 97 while they were still climbing the card so there was serious history.
I can't stand the corporate dude love angle, found the whole thing really lame and didn't enjoy the match between the two either.

I voted Hunter myself. His matches with Foley were better than the other 3 guys imo. Better chemistry

Great idea for a thread.
My choice too is HHH based solely on the RR street fight alone which was absolute brilliance. I also loved their HIAC but that Street Fight delivered in spades. Crucial to HHHs career just like Orton @ Backlash 2004.
BUT? I LOVED his matches with Austin too. They were both excellent & McMahons involvement was A1. Good sendoff for the Dude....
Also couldnt complain about his feud with Rock over the belt. Pivotal moments included....
His stuff with UT was great from KOTR 96 to IYH: Buried Alive...not so much in 97 IMHO.
His title programme with HBK(though not fitting the criteria) was also a belter.

I actually picked Austin for this one.
Reason being that I thought it was so shocking that Mick turned heel, and turned his back on the Cactus Jack persona at the time, to become Dude Love. Also, with that happening, it set up the return of Corporate Mankind, and thus we got that great HIAC match with Taker at KOTR.
Plus I feel with Austin and Foley it helped make Foley a legit main event star. Before that he was just an upper mid card guy getting title shots at the likes of HBK or Undertaker.
The 2000 stuff with Triple H was good too, don't get me wrong. But to me it did nothing to help Foley. It was all to make Triple H seem even more invincible, since Foley was on his way out at the time.

I almost went with the feud with Rock as I thought both guys did a hell of a job in both the matches and promos.Perfect feud for Rock in the beginnings of his main event run.
In the end though I went with the feud with HHH. I enjoyed the hell outta these two in 97 but man the 2000 stuff topped that in spades. The Rumble match is indeed an all time classic.

honestly, it all really comes down to foley turning into cactus jack walking down the ramp while triple h just looks in disbelief. that sold me 100%.

While I loved his work with Triple H, The Rock gets my vote. From the turn at Survivor Series to the feel good factor of Foley winning the title on RAW. The match at the Royal Rumble was one of the most uncomfortable matches I had seen at the time and it is still really hard to watch to this day. Foley more than got Rock ready for Austin at WrestleMania!
