I’m a huge fan of both these guys and I haven’t been able to find a 1v1 match between the two (I started watching wrestling in 1994).
Anyone know if these two ever had a televised 1v1 match? Obviously Rude leaving the WWF in 1990 and retiring in 1994 prevented them from working in the 90s, but I wasn’t sure if they ever had a match together in the 80s. One of my dream matches to have seen them work together sometime from 1992-1994 when I feel both were at the top of their games.

Sadly no. I can only imagine the greatness these two would produce if they fought each other.

To bad this wasn’t taped as I’d have killed to have seen that match. I’m sure those fans went home happy.

Maybe one day it will be included in one of those "Never seen before" dvds.

Maybe it’s just “lost” and waiting for an intern to find it on a random tape. I feel like if they had taped the match it would have been on the Bret Hart DVD that came out back in the mid 2000s, but maybe they did and it’s just lost in the shuffle somewhere.

Rick Rude was always hit or miss with me.
I felt his WWF run he wasn't a very good worker. He was a sports entertainer at best. Then his WCW run happened with matches against Sting, Steamboat and Dustin Rhodes and I was like, "Wow! This guy can wrestle!"
Case in point, I found the Royal Rumble 88 match between Steamboat vs. Rude to be boring. Nothing stuck out for that 20 minute draw of a snooze fest. Yet in WCW, their 30 minute Iron Man match was amazing!

Two of my favorites, to bad they didn't get a nice feud. Would have been cool if Rude came back to the WWF in 1994 to feud with Bret when he was the champion - maybe even take Backlund's spot and win the title at Survivor Series 94. Though, he definitely would have held the belt longer. Maybe have Diesel dominate the 1995 rumble and face Rude at WM11, if not Diesel, then have Bret come back and win the rumble and face Rude in a rematch at WM11 for the title.

Yet in WCW, their 30 minute Iron Man match was amazing! I feel the same way about his WWF run. Great character and entertainer, but I don’t think he was ever allowed to really show off his in-ring skills, especially when he was working a lot with guys like Warrior, Roberts, Piper, and Boss Man (all performers known more for there character work than their in-ring skills or towards the end of their primes). Maybe if had he had a gimmick similar to Curt or Bret he’d have been allowed to show his in ring skills off, but for whatever reason Vince never showcased that. His WCW work is gold to me and a big part of it was his ability to show off his technical skills. Bret has always credited Rick as being an amazing technician in the ring and you can really see it with his matches with Steamboat, Dustin Rhodes, Flair, and Sting. I truely believe that Rude was the iron man of WCW along with Sting from 1991-1993 and that his more serious character work was a plus as well.

Yet in WCW, their 30 minute Iron Man match was amazing! This pretty much sums up my feelings. He knew how to play to the audience to get over, and WWF and WCW had very different fan bases and styles. It's sort of crazy that he had just turned 35 when his career ended. It's very likely he would have stayed near the top of the card for at least the next 5-8 years, and could have had some really interesting feuds in the not so distant future with Savage, Hogan, etc. Though I don't know that Hogan would have viewed him as a top heel, and he probably would have ended up in the DoD...

I feel like Hogan’s first feud in WCW was always going to be against Flair. That was the big-money feud. I’d like to think that Rude would be next in line but we know how Hogan pushed his buddy Beefcake to the front of the line. One of the reasons Rude left the WWF in the first place was because he felt he was being overlooked as a top heel (in addition to pay disputes). Various sources have said that Rude wanted a top spot in WCW and I could see him walking away if Hogan wanted to push him aside in favor of his cronies. Rude likely goes back to the WWF once his contract expired if Bischoff and Hogan tried pushing him back down the card.

If by some chance WWE has this match filmed, they need to release it somehow. Whether doing classic dvds again or resurrecting the hidden gems on the network.

Rude & Hart are made for each other. Rude was such a brilliant seller...Bret's stiff offence would have looked a million bucks. LOVED Rude.
