all of this. Eddie has left us. Eddie Van Halen has died aged 65 after a long battle with throat cancer, according to reports. The guitarist, who co-founded Van Halen, died at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica on Tuesday with his wife, Janie by his side, along with his son Wolfgang and Alex, his brother. He had been battling cancer in secret for many years, believing it had been caused by putting his metal guitar picks in his mouth. TMZ reports that Eddie’s health had declines in the last 72 hours, with doctors discovering the cancer had moved to his brain as well as other organs. Great guitarist. One of the most influential and best of all time. Shame he and his brother were such bungholes to the rest of the band. RIP, but honestly, this one didn't bother me nearly as much as some others this year.

Unfortunately I got on here to post this... I’ll never forget the first time I heard Van Halen’s debut album. Went out and bought the cd same day. Still got it to this day. Eddies guitar work throughout the years was amazing and he really inspired so many musicians throughout the years. He truly was one of a kind! I’ll always remember him! R.I.P Eddie Van Halen.

Truly a legend. Such an innovator. Very sad about the way he died. Metal pics aside, his smoking didn't help, either. He left quite a legacy.
My all-time favorite Van Halen song:

This one really hit me hard. Eddie was a legend, he was one of the best guitarist that has ever lived, and he was one of those guys that you thought would never die. I’m somewhat speechless right now. He not only inspired me as a guitarist but as a musician too. For someone who has admitted that he doesn’t know much music theory to accomplish so much in the music industry is nothing short of spectacular. I will always remember EVH and how much he has inspired me. R.I.P.

True story - Artie Kendall used to play the intro to Hot for Teacher every time a customer would bring a guitar to the buy back department.

Hey What? I did Beat It as well, you have to change it up. I still can't play that solo though. Eddie was probably the most influential guitarist during the 80s. I'm sure retrospectively people would say someone like Kirk or Dave but growing up in the 80s we all wanted to play like Eddie Van Halen. I still find it funny that the best selling single Van Halen ever had was known more for it's keyboard solo.
