Anyone noticed that the Paul Orndorff package says True FX but the head is the same as his last 2 Mattel figures? Itโs the same sculpt. But the the painting of the facial features use the True FX face printing technology. The sad thing is the old way looks 100 times better in Orndorffโs case. True FX technology is only the face printing on the head not the head scan itself.

Anyone noticed that the Paul Orndorff package says True FX but the head is the same as his last 2 Mattel figures? I haven't seen it in person, but the new Royal Rumble Ultimate Warrior has the same True FX sticker even though it's seemingly the same head as Legends 4, which came out long before True FX was a thing. Well, um, see...
They literally CANNOT computer scan either Orndorff or Warrior. They're legends figures. They had to be computer generated/modeled, not scanned directly.
But the True FX face printing technology can be used for anyone, even if the head isn't a scanned head.
So I guess there's your answer. There's no point in trying to update the headsculpts for True FX because you can't True FX Scan a person from decades ago.
Although, to be fair, Shane IS still around and IS still able to be scanned and resculpted, he just chooses not to be. So really, who knows? I look at the headscuplts of modern people like Rhea Ripley and her basic, and I cannot understand how the True FX messed up that badly. Has AFA ever explained the full process for who gets scanned, who doesn't, and how they render the legends/flashback figures? I'd be fascinated to know the process.

....Paul Orndorff isn't dead. with someone like orndorff, it probably just makes more sense to use an old sculpt than to scan him. at 71 years old, he doesn't look much like he did back in the 80s
