Putting this here as I didn't think this was specific to any wrestling brand and is a general question:
For moves where a wrestler sits out or lands on their tailbone - how does it not really hurt their tailbone? For example giving a move (leg drops, Stone Cold Stunner, sidewalk slam, sit-out facebuster....) or taking a move (Bubba Bomb....).
Do you get to a point where it becomes hardened to the impact so that it doesn't hurt that much, or their legs/glutes absorb it and you need enough muscles to cushion the impact?
I've hurt my tailbone even landing grass, or on crash mats during gym at school or doing martial arts. That's an inch to an inch and a half of padded foam onto concrete or wooden floors. A wrestling ring might not be so solid on the wood side, but there's way less padding and it must hurt.
I just cringe when I see top rope leg drops.
Anyone who's gone through wrestling training and competed in matches could share their experiences?

Never really thought about it, but you don't feel it. Just feels like sitting down a little too fast in a firm chair.

I have no experience, but I always assumed the glutes and legs absorb a lot of the initial impact. I have heard wrestlers speak of spinal compression and it sending a shock up your spine. I’m pretty sure Austin has said looking back he does wish he had an easier finisher when he was stunning people left and right in his prime. And let’s not forget all of Hogan’s back surgeries.

butt bumps, done on the regular, definitely don't feel great
Yokozuna probably was in pain a fair bit, you'd think.
on a side note, Bubba is one of the most durable wrestlers I've ever seen. especially for a guy who started in the business at around if not over 300lb.

I think I remember Hogan saying that he wishes he would have picked a different finisher because the leg drop gave him alot of hip issues. Austin also said that he did a stunner outside the ring once and it hurt so bad that he never did it again. He also said that when he would hit the ring and give out 4-5 stunners that he'd start feeling it. I've always wondered about the guys like Jeff Hardy who leg drop off the top rope. That's gotta hurt like hell.

When I was training back in the day we had like a 8 man battle, there was a spot where everyone went from the outside and tried a top rope move missed layed on the mat and the guy guy would try and miss. Well it came my time to go and I was doing a leg drop which I had never done. So I go up to the top rope look down and said no way in hell. Jumped down did a regular leg drop and laid down

I think Hogan ended up losing a few inches of height way faster than he would have too.
Thank god Fandango didn't win many matches or his tail bone would be a mess from top rope guillatine leg drops.

I HATE Ass bumps, and try to avoid them as much as possible. About 3-5 are fine, more than that and they become annoying.
Bad regular Flat, Snap, and Flip bumps where you end up landing closer to your tailbone also suck.
I have no idea how Matt Hardy has spent over 20 years hitting middle rope Leg Drops, and is still able to walk to this day. You couldn't pay me enough to do that, or even just one from the top of a Steel Cage like he did.

I remember in 2005, Matt Hardy did a top of the cage leg drop to Edge at Unforgiven. That was the last time you seen Matt Hardy do a leg drop in a long ass time! I remember he then switched to going up on the middle rope, doing his pose and then coming off with an elbow to the back of the guys neck as he was standing. I guess from what I read online the top of the cage leg drop was all he had left for ass bumps like that.
I am sure Matt has probably done the middle rope leg drop since, but I know for years you never saw him to that move anymore.

Take it more on the cheek if you can. I've done it but I can shift a little bit before hitting the ring where the tailbone doesn't hit.

The other week I was taking down the ring at a local indie and I sat too fast to get off the apron and that hurt my tailbone so badly. Also sliced my finger on a turnbuckle so I was a mess that night. I can't even imagine doing stunners constantly. I guess you get used to it, but damn, the damage still has to rack up over time.

...But wrestling is fake? KIDDING. Jeez guys I'M KIDDING. That Jeff Hardy leg drop says it all.
I'm sure you train and train, learning how to absorb contact or play off pain under the lights, and eventually become numb to it for the sake of your dreams and goals. I can't imagine how many moves actually hurt the guy doing it more than the person receiving it. For example, I think Pedigrees would be so hard on knees.
