I want a kayfabe explanation as to how wrestlers get announced at the same weight every week for literal years. This has always been in the back of my mind and I never understood it. Lets use The Undertaker as an example for this. From his debut until like 2002-03 Undertaker was billed at 328lbs. In about 2002-03 that changed to 305lbs. Then when he came back from injury in 2007 he was billed at 299lbs and that's where he's been every since. So in 30 years Undertaker has only been three different weights? How does this work in kayfabe? Do they weigh people only when they debut or come back from injury?

It’s whatever they want it to be This. There’s a reason wrestlers have “billed” heights and weights. I love you.

Do they even announce weights anymore ? They do, but there are definitely times where I notice they skip it sometimes.

I mean, do you want them to announce fluctuation?
So one week they say 299
And the next week they says 302 because Undertaker had a big cheat day before Smackdown? Lol
Unless there are large jumps in weight that are noticeable, they aren’t going to change what they say for a couple pounds

Kayfabe - yes, they only weigh people during a pre-debut or pre-return medical. Because they wrestle several nights a week, they don’t get weighed for every fight. Also they submit their own heights and weights (like when Crash Holly was allegedly over six feet and 400lbs). The only time officials get involved is if a wrestler is trying to drop down to a lower weight class than their previously submitted weight, or if a weigh-in is scheduled as part of the promotional build to a match.

Ok this is the answer I've been wanting to see. The most recent example of the last sentence was when Buddy Murphy joined the Cruiserweight division in 2018. Also explains how Triple H was billed at 260 when he tore his quad but when he came back he was billed at 272 (and a bunch of other examples).

Haha I think OP is fully aware that the weights and heights are worked. He wants a kayfabe explanation, as he stated. Just a fun discussion idea.
I assume it's because whoever is the ring announcer gets a stern talking to by the wrestlers to get certain weights right. Or else maybe they'll beat him/her up!!

Kayfabe: they get weighed as part of their medical before debut. Then they have a medical before returning from injury or hiatus. Edit: Remember when Matt Hardy was C/W champ and got caught out for being over 215lbs, that wasnt because of weekly weigh ins. Proving that it must only be during routine medical testing.
Real World: its all a work they're billed as larger than what they are, height and weight, to make them more imposing or whatever. And to get a reaction when introducing one of the many real giants like Andre, Yokozuna, Big Show etc

Best example is 1998 when Hulk Hogan came back all slim and trim from being off the steroids. The announcers would say, "he cut back on weight to have speed against his opponents." I think he went from 303lbs for years to down to 275lbs. So at least they gave us a reason why he lost the weight, to be faster than his opponents.
As for now?? Vince just doesn't care because he knows the WWE Universe will keep watching and complaining, but more importantly they will keep watching!

I remember a few years ago there was a whole thing about how they didn’t announce weights for any women, but they announced 240lbs for Nia Jax.
