One thing I have recently gotten into during my pass time is watching old tapings of wrestling shows and observing the crowd. I have the old Monday Night Raw Beginning DVD and am fascinated with the audience and atmosphere of the time 93-96. I was a kid at the time and watched these shows as they aired. I was too young to appreciate the crowd back then but now I look at them and they add so much to the event.
I study their reaction to the in ring action and the performers at the time. I even profile the members of the audience. For example I would notice an older crowd member who appears to be there straight from his office job and carrys himself in a professional manner (a site I dont notice in current day audience). I would wonder what his opinions were on the then current product.
Overall the demographic of the wrestling crowd was much more intriguing back then and I would advise most members on this forum to take a trip back to early 90s wrestling and take a look at those who were in the crowd.

Besides others already mentioned. I think of the bald pink shirt fan who was at a few Wrestlemanias front row. I'd post a pic if it wasn't so burdensome to do such

You should check out NWA/JCP World Wide Wrestling episodes from 84-88. The place would erupt when the Rock & Roll Express' music would start. Or when Dusty Rhodes, Magnum T A or Jimmy Valiant would make a save.

I'm not sure if it's a TV production thing (audio balancing or whatever), but when I watch newer wrestling it seems very "hollow". The pops aren't the same, the interaction isn't the same, but that could be for good reason and could be a result of different production techniques.

I always enjoy this especially since the crowd wasn't playing it up

I still get a crack when you watch old shows like Superstars/Challenge and they pipe in the fake cheers and boos and you look at the crowd and see them doing nothing lol.
Those long marathon tapings back then. No doubt they were exhausted at the end.

The first time I saw Lenny on ECW I thought "wow these fans don't realize Jim Martin is right beside them."

Loved how he'd always applaud the subtle things in matches, like reversals in technical chain spots. His reactions were great too.

I recognize these two. They were usually at shows in Ohio back in the day.Remember seeing them on WCW/ECW shows specifically.
