In a recent interview, when asked about the roster size, TK pretty much conceded that the men's roster was too big for their current offering, and that he should have been trimming people but didn't want to because of the pandemic. It wasn't clear if he meant the tier zero dark talent or full time talent but I'm inclined to think the latter.
So who do you think TK is thinking about letting go? Not so much who you think should go, though I suppose that could be a second part to the topic. I'm more curious who everyone thinks is in danger in Tony Khan's mind.
I can't actually think of many. I think TH2 is in danger and their current run may be more of a second chance tryout, but at the same time he put them on the first episode of dynamite.
I would say kip but TK is high on Penelope so I don't see him either.
I actually had no real idea who he's referring to. Everyone else I can think of does stuff backstage to my knowledge so I don't see them on the list either.

They have too many jobbers on Dark that don’t even look like wrestlers

Not fussed about Luther. The fact he's there because of his friendship with Jericho. Is a reason for him to go. If AEW want to compete with WWE, they need to have quality not Quantity.
Matt Hardy is another one for me. I don't see the point of him being there, Miro as well. I want to see new talent. Will Hobbs is a great example of that.
I'm not interested in seeing ex WWE talent. Especially bitter one's. They make AEW at times, look very petty and silly. With there digs and shots.

The fact that each week I swear we see new women or men on AEW Dynamite who are just getting signed and we haven't seen half of the roster yet on TV is just odd.
That librarian buy is the perfect example. He sits at ringside during Dynamite to just sing Jericho's theme song. It's like if you are friends with Cody, Omega or the Bucks, you will automatically get hired.

Unless they get serious and start doing things right!

Janela TH2 Marko Peter Avalon Luchasarus Uno & Grayson Spears Private Party Matt Hardy Jake Hager Luther Sonny Kiss Multiple women's roster members. Most of the Tier Zero guys wouldn't be around at all.
Considering it's "All Friends Wrestling," it's almost hard to imagine Tony Khan firing anyone. I can only imagine it'd be like a bad game of TEW where you piss everyone off backstage and ruin the morale.
Seeing how some of the names on the list above have grown and had such cool stories, would've been a shame if some had been released.
Also, the above list might be partially filled with people I'd want to see fired, not just who I "think" TK would fire.

Also, the above list might be partially filled with people I'd want to see fired, not just who I "think" TK would fire. Haha yeah there's a couple on there that 100% aren't going anywhere. Luchasaurus is super over, and they knew damn well when they signed Private Party they weren't going to see an ROI for a few years. That said a lot of the names I came up with too appear on your list. In some cases though, they end up adding value backstage that I think makes them stick around. Spears runs a wrestling school, not a bad guy to keep around. Luther is doing a bunch of backstage work. I had Cutler and Nakazawa on my list too but they both have roles beyond wrestling that keep them around as well. From your list the few I didn't list on mine that I think could be in TK's head would be Janela, Avalon, and Kiss. Plus Mel on the women's side. I think we're going to see a lot of these tier zero guys dropped once their guaranteed dates are done, and new ones brought in. I expect that type of contract to stick around, but probably on shorter deals, and he's going to be having to get a lot pickier on who gets picked up, at least on the men's side. I was actually just reading an article in the Ottawa Sun about Uno & Grayson today. They have both quit their day jobs now (and only very recently) and are actually debating taking up residence in the states. They've been literally going to Florida every 2 weeks since they returned after the initial lockdown, and quarantining in their houses is Gatineau QC for the entire 2 weeks they are home each time. Pretty darn dedicated. I've been to Gatineau, it's quite beautiful in areas.

That said, he was actually involved in one of the most entertaining Dark stories I can think of. He and Cutler were the battle of the losers and the BTE bits, etc were absolutely hilarious. I get the feeling that he also does some work backstage. What's funny about the last line is the one who was probably the closest to any of them (Cardona) is the only one who didn't get a full deal lol. Not that it makes your point about nepotism invalid, just that it makes me chuckle.

I'm sure he's a fine guy and all but this thread screams Kip Sabian. Penelope Ford and to a lesser extent Miro really feel like the only reason he's still there (and I don't think anyone even wants Miro being associated with him). I had to slow my breathing down when you suggested that btw.

I’m pretty sure Miro only signed a one year deal. I think it’d be more likely they just have that expire than cut him.
Even though I think he has a high ceiling, Janela hasn’t done anything to stand out. Even his plunder matches are tame. It feels like he’s trying to be a tv wrestler instead of figuring out how to do a version of what got him over on the indies. I do think he’s at risk.
Jack Evans and Jake Hager are the only ones I’d not think twice about and immediately cut.

The 3rd hour of AEW on TNT is still coming up, Dark puts up good numbers, and they'll be doing house shows once it's safe to tour.
I think they'll need guys to fill the spots and time.

Another thing to add is there's too many executive vice presidents in AEW. Apparently they never heard of the old saying Too Many Cooks Spoil The Soup. That's another part of their problem

That would be a tough call, but if a "talent share" would be possible, maybe no one would have to be cut. Each wrestler has their upsides and downsides. Avalon with Ray Rosas was a brilliant tag team on the indies, which provided one of the greatest cage tag matches I have ever seen (vs Rockness Monsters in CWFH). Evans and Angelico have proven their greatness in Mexico. Like someone above said, Janela may need to let loose a bit and go hardcore, and it could help him out. Sonny Kiss has some skills, but I feel like lucha matches would fit them better....maybe a loan to CMLL or AAA could work (maybe Mexico's Most Wanted could do a couple shows up here in exchange?)
I guess I am saying that they all had something good enough to bring them to the dance, might not want to bounce them for the pandemic based issues that they couldn't control.

I think part of the equation is pay vs ROI. Without knowing what sort of money some of these folks are making, we're only looking at one side of the equation.
But off the top of my head: TH2 Joey Janella Marko Michael Nakazawa Mel (I'd love to understand why she was hired to begin with)
Spears and Avalon are good hands who are decent heel jobbers. Luther is basically useless, but I'm not sure that TK wants to get into a political pissing contest with Jericho.
Depending on how their pay is structured, I think you can make a strong argument that they haven't gotten value for Matt Hardy or Hager. But they may be transitioning Matt into a backstage role, and I'm assuming Hager's deal had a lower downside in exchange for allowing him to do MMA. But the use of both of them has been odd, imo.

I'd get shut of:
Alan Angels. Luther. Marko Stunt - I LOVED Jurrassic Express before he turned up. Preston Vance. Absolutely all of the Dark guys. Leva Bates.

They could definitely afford to let some people go. I’m assuming it’ll mostly be dark people. Can’t see anyone that makes dynamite getting cut

Mel (I'd love to understand why she was hired to begin with) I think alot if stuff was tried when they started to get Brandi over but then Awesome Kong didnt work and Brandi wasnt getting over as a heel. TK also mentioned that alot of the guys on Dark on on any real AEW exclusive contracts, they mostly get paid per appearance or a tier 1 contract. I also see guys like Luther, Dustin and Chris Daniels moving on to backstage/training roles more.

I think Daniels already has some sort of backstage/office role. He has to be considered a part time wrestler at this stage.
