This is something I remember from 2006-2007, where edited versions of matches usually no longer then 10 minutes would air during episodes of Smackdown but never RAW. It was basically just random matches from the past. Only one I can find online is Miz vs Taker. They seemed pretty out of place and I always wondered what was the point of them. Could they have been exclusive to the international feed of Smackdown only?

I remember them airing these on the Confidential show.
They would show highlights of matches like Bret/Perfect SSlam 91,Snuka/Muraco in the cage, Austin Bret WM XIII etc.

I remember them. I'm from the UK, so they may well have been just for international markets? I always assumed it was because Smackdown was taped, it was done to fill the full 2 hour slot over here? Seeing as we have fewer commercial breaks over here

Yeah I always thought they were put in as filler for Sky Sports in the international markets.

I always took it as filler. I got the impression that Raw had the majority of the star power and it was featured on Smackdown to pad out the time slot.

Those matches ruined the flow of Smackdown for me. They were annoying and made no sense.
Years later they replaced them with Raw rebounds.
