At this rate....Trying not to buy another house..... That MOC Flair Hasbro fig on the left . You sir are indeed Fair to Flair! I bought a MOC Flair collection from a guy a few years back. He wanted $100 for everything. Got MOC Hasbro, all his Jakks CS (except for the 1/25) Classic Deluxe, almost all his OSFTM figures and some scattered Jakks TTL's. Always been a fan of Flair

Just like when everyone couldn't wait to sell their collection when prices spiked in the spring, I'm the complete opposite -- I want MORE! Lol.
I feel like I'm finally close to where I want to be with most wrestling lines (either with complete sets or one of every character) and 2021 for me is all about setting up a big display. Still gonna have to wait a while because I can't get to an Ikea until the border opens but I finally have a set plan for my room -- a bunch of bookcases with lights and am gonna throw all my signed Hasbros up on a wall. I can't wait.

Give my nephew my JAKKS scale ring. I've already bought him WWE figures he wanted but he still doesn't have a ring. I rather give him the ring to play with then just have it stored in my closet.
For me 2021, never buy any more New Day or Kevin Owens figure

Quality over quantity. I'll hopefully buy less than I did this year and start to get rid of figures I don't need so I can save more for future releases.

Amen my brothers and sisters. The hobby, which was once a source of casual joy and pleasure for me, turned far more into an obligation in 2020. You are exactly right with the lines selling the notion of "Missing Out" and it's awful. It's not a hobby anymore, it a job, and somewhere along the way, collectors (and by far kids) stopped being the target audience. Now, these figures are sold with the intention of building hype and going the figure version of VIRAL. There's a lot that can be said for the horrible concept of influencers and their kind. I remember in the 90s when everyone, outside of maybe a few professionally run businesses, bought their BCA and TTL figures at KB just the same. There were no "perks" or "influencer samples" for action figures. Nobody was sending toys to housewives to post reviews for in an issue of Good Housekeeping.
I almost became an influencer, once. For tea. I was on a large tea-review website posting detailed reviews for everything I drank daily. Soon, companies started sending me free tea.
I stopped posting on the website. That's how much the "influencer" market has come to disgust me. Because, here's the thing. When companies, the manufacturers, developers, and producers of a product start to send you stuff for free, you can't help but think it's because your opinion matters to the community. And it isn't a large leap in thinking from there until you reach "Well, maybe I'm just more important than these simple retail-hunting folk." Influencers, more often than not, have a huge head on their shoulders about their chosen field and the current business practices only encourage their crap and feed their egos.
The dark realization of all of this has led me to two resolutions for the new year.
1. Stop hesitating on buying the things you want. If there's a figure you like, get it. Due to the current market and crap surrounding it, these things aren't getting any cheaper. Spend that 40 dollars now so you don't feel compelled to spend 70 later. Also, I need to remember that my shelves are poorly lit and in a dark corner. Stop aiming for perfection. Not ever figure needs to be Mint off the card. Short of excessive paint rub and figures with missing or damaged parts, there's no shame in having pre-loved figures. You're poor, Shanie. Suck it up and realize that if you want a DM Crow Sting figure, you're either paying 60 dollars, or you're getting one that's slightly worn. And you know what? There's no shame in either of those options. 2. But don't waste money on items you feel obligated to collect because "the community" tells you it's good. You know what, if I had Mattel shoveling figures for free into my mailbox every week, I'd go online and say that Mattel was the best company ever to exist as well. They're not, and stop treating them as such. Be more discerning, pick out only the stuff you want, and stop shelling out money on figures you don't really care about. Yes, this includes buying exclusives and chases when you see them just because they're "Rare". Just because something is hard to come by doesn't make it good.
Sorry for the long post/rant. I'm in a mood tonight.
Interesting perspective, you don’t much get to hear the insides of how influencers and companies interact. I worry about the future of wrestling figs, it’s getting hit pretty hard by influencers trying to squeeze its audience for all its worth. Obviously MWFP created a weird cultist fanbase that buys all these worthless pieces of merch trying to get shoutouts on the show. Now you’ve got Cardona trying to use his wealth and influence to shape the hobby around his vision, just look at the micro brawler community or the constant pandering to Jeremy/Jazwares botched release after botched release. Then you’ve got kids sending in their collection to MDT and he opens up and gives a big “thanks little timmy for the awesome figs!” Idk man, if some kid sends me their toys trying to get on my youtube channel, I’m sending that right back. Even the niche-est of hobbies are getting hijacked by these wealthy influencers trying to dictate the market around their tastes and capitalizing off their young and impressionable audience. Sad times. At first, I thought kids were sending their collection to Sweaty Bill and then I realized you were talking about My Damn Toys. In some ways, these Instagram pics or Youtube toy hunting videos collectors post of themselves cleaning out the pegs and bragging about their collection is whats attracting scalpers to the hobby and this happens to anything people collect like sneakers, video games, etc.

I gotta get a better display for all my figs and other collectibles. I've got way to much stuff just sitting around.

Actually, I’d like to get my grail, the SES Punk MOC. Passed on one for $300 last year and regret it.

I've got 3 major goals I'm going to work on this coming year-
1. come to terms with purging most of my basics and being OK with it 2. find a new way to display as much of my mattel collection as possible 3. scale back on buying

One figure per day ... I got Umaga Yesterday and Leather Jacket mcu Wolverine & another S1 Jericho today so I can take tomorrow off and start again on Monday Morning That aside I did notice from doing 3 straight days of Toy Hunts ... 3 local Walmart’s that didn’t have a single AEW Figure and full case each of Series 1 this Morning not necessary what I was hoping for but great to see so much product in one day ..... 6 figures each store

I want to start customizing again, I stopped for a long time and miss it. Also I'd like to do more photography.
I'm only collecting Legends now (pre-Attitude era), so 2021 is looking like a fairly lean year so far.

Even the niche-est of hobbies are getting hijacked by these wealthy influencers trying to dictate the market around their tastes and capitalizing off their young and impressionable audience. Sad times.
Quick rundown of how it worked.
Step 1. Get involved in a hobby. Step 2. Consume/Spend mass amounts of money on said hobby Step 3. Go onto internet and spend all your free time reviewing said hobby Step 4. Amass an army of followers who read and like every review Step 5. Wait.
It's really that dang simple. People talk about how you have to be well versed in the field or be attractive and well spoken. Well, trust me, not all influencers show their faces and if you spend years obsessing over anything, you're pretty much guaranteed to get good at it. I was only at the tea thing for about two years before my first company approached me. It made me so happy at first, until I very quickly realized... now it's a *job*. Now you are being exchanged goods for your services and you are fully expected to give it the same 110% you were giving it when you were doing it for fun. And when that fact occurred to me, I felt dirty, actually dirty. I felt like a sell-out and like I was now part of the wrong side of the system.
I drank my first cup of tea in about three months last night. And I went nowhere in the vicinity of the website I was popular on.
And as for people sending their collections to influencers, that makes me a whole other level of sick.
I had a friend, an IRL friend who, when I asked her if she had anything she was eyeing for christmas, told me to take that money and instead go buy several rare pokemon cards to mail (for free) to her favorite influencer. I MEAN WTAF? I did it, but needless to say, I stopped exchanging presents with that friend after that.
I love youtube, don't get me wrong. There's some quality stuff on there. But good golly has the entire collector culture gotten toxic across the dang board.

Theres only a few influencers I trust and by few I mean literally like 2..and they aren't in the wrestling figure game. But they have put in the years pretty much a decade or more. Most of the wrestling figure influencers haven't been around that long at all and they are all very shady and really annoying.

Buy less figures. I’ve had a rule since I got back into collecting that I need one of everyone, but I have people now that I don’t even like, and I’m losing interest in the product on television. AEW has my attention, and that line is only getting better and better.

Complete MOC LJN Black Card collection! Definitely my biggest wrestling figure goal. Also very very excited for the Ultimate Edition Jeff Hardy. Could be my favorite figure of all time. Depends how it looks of course, but very very hyped for it.
