No offense to Ron, but it's like a wrestler or athlete coming back 20 years later; they have a semblance of their former selves, but it's not the work we love and remembers.
These aren't up to the original, no matter who is sculpting them. That's a very high standard -- but Mattel came pretty damn close.
The Mattel retros really weren't close to the Hasbros. They were far bulkier, way more cartoony (people are convinced the Hasbros were cartoony but for the era those are all pretty decent realistic approximations of the wrestlers) and had mostly terrible head sculpts. I had a near complete MOC collection at one point and those figures looked and felt very cheap next to the originals. The detail on the sculpting on the ZST figures looks a lot closer to the original Hasbros and Ron's original artwork than Mattel got.
I personally didn't think so based on all the sculpts and pictures I've seen -- especially since they have no actions -- but I'll certainly wait to see the protos, and hope I'm wrong

The sculpt we've seen for Cardona is way more in line with the Hasbros in terms of detail and accuracy (go back and look at Warrior #2...or any of the other gorilla press figures) than anything Mattel did. I'll take these figures with no action and superior detail and accuracy that are being designed by the guy who designed the originals over the super bulky, cartoony and half-assed Mattel cash grab retros that looked more like Fisher Price toys or oversized Happy Meal pack-ins than the Hasbro figures I had as a kid.

I had high hopes for the retro line, but that awful Series 1 Warrior should have told me what to expect more than anything else. I can't fully judge ZST's until we see the final product but I have high hopes for these now. RnR express is almost exactly the kinda thing I'd love to see so I'm excited for more info! Man, don't even get me started on that Series 1 Warrior. Judging by the quality on the Cardona and Myers prototypes, it's probably a safe bet that RnR Express are gonna be great. I can't wait to see those!

I agree, I think these are much closer in detail to the Hasbro's than the ones Mattel put out. I actually was not much of a fan of those. I'm with you, I'd take these over the Mattel ones any day, but, I don't play with them so I don't need the actions. I would love for these guys to do more wrestlers from the 80s and 90s, that would be awesome. All of this. Ricky Morton posted a tweet about having something in the works and tagged Brian Myers and Zombie Sailor quote tweeted it with the thinking emoji, so it seems like the RNR are coming. Myers and Cardona are gonna be first, but we don't have a date yet. I'm guessing the preorders will be on Zombie Sailor's website. On the Major pod and ZST's instagram, it was confirmed they have wrestlers past and present signed on for these, so we're definitely getting more legends than just RNR.

So cool to see so many people doing what mattel should have done! Would you guys consider offering these loose too for people who want to display them? Could be a nice niche considering the collectors that some of these would be aimed at, and would save some production costs if they are being made to order?

Anyone hear Friday’s MajorPod? Cardona mentions how he’s been into bendems all of a sudden, and Myers said he couldn’t imagine why. It was subtle but I predict MajorPod bendums in 2021.

Hey @vintagefigs1 do you think we'll see the Ron Rudat artwork for these figures eventually? It'd be kinda cool to see how closely the sketches match the originals.

Goddamn, Ron's still got it!
EDIT: So from the wording of that post it looks like they're doing a full on series 1, not just Myers and Cardona. That's very interesting...and I can't wait to see who else he's got in the pipeline for the first series! Bring on the damn preorders!

I don't dislike Mark or anything but I don't really have any desire to own a figure of him. Very cool to see the sketch though.

That figure art is just So from what we know now we’re looking at a series 1 potentially including: -Brian Myers -Matt Cardona -Smart Mark Sterling -Danhausen -Ricky Morton* -Robert Gibson* *thought I’d guess more likely a RnR Express tag team two-pack. Am I missing anyone we know about already? I’d guess we could see more of the Major Pod family here as well: Swoggle almost certainly will get one, Heath would be a good shout, Rory Fox, maybe Stang if they are confident they’d not get sued I’m sure we’ll get STOMP Cardona and Myers at some point as well. But I think they’ll have legend lined-up for the first series, especially if the RnR Express do get a two-pack - someone from the Hasbro era with no chance of a WWE figure I’d guess - Hercules? Dino Bravo?

Dino Bravo? Pure speculation on my part, but Zombie has a prior relationship with Henry Godwinn from when he did a pin series a couple years ago. I think ole' HOG would be no-brainer since he debuted in 95. They might have to call him Mark Canterbury on the packaging to avoid legal issues though.
