Something tells me these AEW at Target will be exactly like this so-called Cobra Viper GI Joe figure I hear so much about. Store gets one box of six figures and scalers or hardcore collectors store Target beginning on the street date when the store opens and hang around the aisle harrassing employees to go to the back room and check for them. It's basically what scalpers do with sports cards too. If you're not there when the product gets stocked or waiting beforehand, you'll find nothing but empty pegs. Those Target toy aisles are getting rather embarrassing. The sports card people are way worse than the toy people. Pokémon cards too. I see people huddled around the lady as she unpacks the boxes with the sports cards. Usually groups of 5 to 10 people waiting hours for them to bring out the box.

My local Target STILL hasn’t restocked the wrestling section after the holidays Mine was super weird. It’s like they took everything down, and then just stocked stuff without looking at any peg. Transformers are in at least 4 places and on Batman pegs, and WWE figs aren’t on their pegs, but scattered on other pegs across the aisle. I don’t consider myself that OCD, but it almost gave me a panic attack.

The last year has been beyond toxic. And I say that as somebody who has been been involved as a collector and seller for most of my life. I try to sort of just keep my head down and focus on the aspects of collecting that I enjoy. But I don't blame the box stores one bit if they drop cards completely. Not worth the hassle for a relatively low profit margin.

Yeah, I JUST discovered card collectors at Target. I didn’t even know it was a thing. I arrived an hour before they opened and all of the sudden 5 people got out of there cars and got in line. I was pissed because I thought they were there like I was for toys. Nope. They knew the guy who brought in the cards and everything. When the doors opened they ran to the section and then just waited for the guy to show up to snatch up what they needed/wanted.

I'd love to hear more stories about this -- how are they worse? What did they do that a WM stopped selling them?

Hot wheels collectors can be bad as well, from what I heard in my area if there’s a guy who usually checks a store and sees someone looking while he’s there they will actually say what are you doing looking for hot wheels at my store, if that ever happened to me when I found cases I would tell them it’s called Walmart not whatever their name is mart

Fist fights right in the card aisle. At 1 Wal-Mart a adult snatched boxes out of a kids hands then his dad choked the guy out. Heard at a few targets and Wal-Mart's from employees that the vendors are scared cause they're being followed and confronted in parking lots

If you do look at the card sections of both stores, they both have drastically limited the amount of cards they have in at a time. I’m sure this all has something to do with it.

He said nah man HOT WHEELS! I was relieved, and also confused because I didnt know collecting hot wheels was a thing lol More card stories please.

Card collecting, at least as long as least since the 80's, has always attracted a percentage of shady characters. Because of the possibility of pulling a big money card from packs and the ways values will rise and fall with a player's performance, it draws in a lot of people with gambling addictions, speculators, scammers, and just folks trying to make a quick buck. It's always been a part, but has really been intensified during the pandemic as supply dried up, people got bored, and there were some big name rookie classes in various sports. I could tell you stories for days - people I've known who racked up tens of thousands of dollars in debt buying cards, invested a small fortune in a rookie for the guy to never make it out of the minors, even lost their wife and kids because they were spending their whole paycheck on cards. Tons of great, great people too - I have genuine friends across the country thanks to the hobby. But at the end of the day, I'll take us here arguing over whether Riho's face scan is good or not over all that drama.

Speaking of cards, I noticed a couple of my Targets recently put up new signs. One of my Targets is limiting purchases to 2 packs each of the same series and another Target has signs stating all cards are out, none in the back.

No matter what you go in there for, it is never a positive experience. Don't get me started on how they cancelled my Decade of Domination figures randomly online. Good thing these AEW figures are no longer exclusive to Walmart.

Has anyone gotten any of the AEW figures at a Target yet? I don't think there have been any sightings. Originally they weren't supposed to be at Target until the spring, so it's anyone's guess when they will actually arrive in stores.
