I purchased this letter dated 1834 and need some help translating. I know very little spanish (highshcool was a long time ago). Some words i recognize but most I don't. I believe it to be a purchasing contract or inquiry to purchase something as it mentions "oro" witch is gold. I can read script english writing but spanish i cant..because i dont know spanish. The creases in the letter cant be straighted out without ripping..due to age and fragility 29th of march 1834 to a Bernardo calaro sp ? from a jorge lopez?

My old man speaks Spanish, I'll send it to him and see what he says. If anything, it'll give him something to do.

So far, my dad said it was very hard to decipher the letters let alone the words because of the condition. He said that he will pass it along to another Spanish-speaking friend and they'll work on it. One thing he noted was at the signature, there is a QBS and possible M, (again difficult), but it is a way of signing letters, "QBSM" means Que Beso Su Mano - who kisses your hand. But again, context is important to see if it all makes sense. I think he's enjoying this haha.

I worked in the archives at my college. one of the projects i worked on was deciphering civil war era letters. I can usually read them fine, however because its in spanish its much more difficult because i cant figure out what its saying to help decipher what other words are. Kind of like using context clues. Possibly the letter was sent to someone of importance?

I'm guessing if they signed it as "someone who kisses your hand", it might be sent to a loved one or a sweetheart. Or maybe it's an outdated term of respect?

The letter says:
Dear Marty,
If my calculations are correct, you will receive this letter immediately after you saw the DeLorean struck by lightning. First, let me assure you that I am alive and well. I've been living happily these past eight months in the year 1834.
