They legitimately are changing the game the right way. I hope all of the partnerships keep going for a long time But wasn’t this attempted with global force wrestling, and doesn’t it make it difficult for viewers to connect to a wrestler when there are so many different ones each week? Global Force was an awful attempt at it. it was just Jarrett trying to start TNA 2.0. I think AEW is doing fine using who they have right now with the partnerships

But wasn’t this attempted with global force wrestling, and doesn’t it make it difficult for viewers to connect to a wrestler when there are so many different ones each week? Some people might feel that way, but as of now AEW is the only one of the 7 I'm frequently watching. If someone stands out, then I look them up. The focus at AEW is still their contracted talent. GFW had the concept on paper, but they never got any real traction and Jarrett as a brand probably turned a lot of people off. I think the best comparison is actually the territory days. Whether it was the NWA champ, or just somebody who would work a stretch in another promotion, a lot of the biggest draws would have their "home" promotion and then work some dates on the card here or there. We really didn't see the kind of stagnant, never-changing roster until post-WCW WWE. Hogan's entire "monster of the month" cycle was based off of bringing a guy in, working on top, and then they dropped down the card or moved on - and that cycle ran basically right up until he joined the NWO. I totally agree about building and showcasing your roster. But the bigger the pool of talent, the more possibilities you play with. And I think this kind of "shared universe" is a great thing if wrestling has *any* chance of getting hot again in a pop culture sense. AEW has done a really good job of elevating a talent into a featured story, shining them up, and then moving them off to the side without losing that luster. And the number of "dream matches" that could be possible have financial and ratings benefits that ridiculously outweigh and drawbacks to not having enough screen time for everyone.

Who are they working with besides NWA, Impact, NJPW, and AAA? Japan I assume for the women’s tournament? AAA, NWA, Impact, DDT/TJP, Marvelous, Gatoh, NJPW, per twitter. So yeah, it looks like the Joshi home promotions are being counted. I don't know enough about Joshi and their contracts, so no idea if that indicates an actual partnership or if they just signed somebody who happened to be on that roster.

when they were talking about the tourney it sounded like the Japanese side is also taking place in Japan? So only the winner has to come over for a match and it will prob be one of their already contracted ladies.

My guess is Yuka is coming over for a while. But theoretically Maki Itoh isn't actually contracted to any company nor are a couple of the others so there's a chance they've actually signed someone planning on moving to America.

Speaking of the tourney, I really hope they differentiate from the "only one women's match per week" and all of it (or at least the American side) is on Dynamite. They'll really undercut what they're going for if they relegate any of it to Dark.

I'm guessing we'll get each American bracket match on dynamite, and highlights of the Japanese ones on dynamite since they're being filmed in an empty arena. I'm guessing they'll just be straight to YouTube for the full match. I agree though, if this is going to be a turning point it needs to be a turning point, which means increasing the TV presence.

Anyone hating on this has no idea how awesome the possibilities are with these two promotions working together. Ibushi, Naito, Tanahashi, & Okada are now on the table to randomly show up on Dynamite to start a feud. We could actually get a satisfying Elite vs Bullet Club feud. Blood & Guts, perhaps? I mean, faction warfare! Not just Bullet Club, but imagine a group of guys like Suzuki Gun coming over for a feud on Wednesday nights. Having Young Lions do their excursion with AEW on Dark. Someone like Ishii or Takagi who are really over with U.S. fans could get a push in AEW making them bigger stars once they return to NJPW. The 2 night Wrestle Kingdom is now a permanent thing apparently. Let's pad those nights with AEW talent.

Using the words mark or smark in derogatory ways is a pretty much sure fire indication to me that I should take nothing that person ever says about wrestling even remotely seriously.

Toru Yano as the new leader of the Dark Order. Hahaha I'm in for a BTE skit of Johnny and Toru just shouting Anna over and over trying to one up each other.

I figure that will be the narrative from the haters, that any collabs will have zero mainstream appeal and are only going more niche to please the fans. But while not directly comparing the two, how many franchises have Marvel done where people thought, "That is gonna flop hard, no one will want to watch that"? With the proper treatment, things can break thru to a larger audience.
