Hey, everyone: please do not tear me to shreds over this. When it comes to NJPW legends that are no longer in the ring; Inoki, Liger, Fujinami, etc, could WWE/Mattel ever distribute figures of them? I'm asking because WWE has inducted all three of them in the Hall of Fame, and seems to be on good terms with the three, especially since they announced Liger last year. I know STORM has made Liger figures, but do you think WWE could come to any sort of agreement to maybe place any of the three of them in a future legends or exclusive line?

Only if they are given a figures contract to sign, but we know by now a Hall of Fame induction doesnt include a Legends/figures contract.

Fujinami has been under a Legends deal for some time. Steve or Bill said at one point that they just don't think the demand is there for a figure, if I'm remembering correctly.
But beyond that, it doesn't look like anyone is signed nor would WWE have any interest in signing them. Maybe Super 7 expands their line, or Jazwares signs some folks. But in the Mattel line chances are pretty close to zero.

I think once the NJPW figures go up on sale in the US, and if they sell good you'll see Mattel change their mind about producing these wrestlers in there line.

Jazwares legends line will be interesting in this respect because its more likely from them....

Id say Super 7 is more likely... Ya maybe...I was meant than Mattel which is probably zero. Super 7 would make sense. But I've said before that if I'm Jeremy, Japanese legends is that sort of cutting edge ground that he loves breaking into. It's the one thing thing that no mainstream action figure line has done. Classic Japanese wrestling is far, far more accessible today than it was during the Jakks days. And with the connections Kenny and the Bucks have, I'd imagine connecting with the right folks isn't impossible. If you made people like Chono, Misawa, Muta, etc I think there would definitely be enough demand to sell through in the quantities Jazwares makes. Totally wishful thinking right now. But like I said, if I'm trying to think like Jeremy, my wheels would be turning.

If they were under a Legends deal and they appeared in a WWE owned promotion then Mattel could make a figure of them.

To make Liger, they'd have to sign Yamada (the wrestler) to a legends deal and sign a deal with Go Nagai, the creator of the anime the character is based on.

Yamada is under contract to New Japan, so they're probably not going to be able to sign him to a WWE legends deal and Mattel was unwilling to pay to be able to put the tattoos on Chris Jericho but you think they're gonna pay a ton to license Liger from Go Nagai?

And with the connections Kenny and the Bucks have, I'd imagine connecting with the right folks isn't impossible. A lot of Japanese legends hated those guys and what they did to New Japan. Chono was pulled from commentating the G1 finals two years ago because he publicly criticized New Japan for their overuse of foreign talent and while that was after those guys were gone, he was very much not a fan of Kenny or the Bucks. I don't think Kenny is connected with anyone who'd have an in with Misawa's family since he never worked NOAH for Misawa and Misawa's family distanced themselves after his passing and the subsequent scandal with the Yakuza. Frankly, getting Misawa would come down to a big time fishing expedition and Kenny probably doesn't have the connections. The Bucks absolutely have no actual major connections in Japan. If everything that's been said is true, and I've got no reason to believe it isn't, those guys weren't well liked by the majority of the current native talent in New Japan, much less the legends. Muto/Muta is an interesting hurdle because classic Muta, the one everyone here wants, requires licensing from New Japan because they own the original version of the character. The masked, bald Muta from his All Japan/Wrestle-1 run, though...they could do that one without too many issues.

And Mattel isn’t Storm. There’s no real money in it for them so it’s not gonna happen. Maybe Jazwares would do it, they care more about the art and passion aspect of toys

I wouldn't pack him 3 to a case but if you have a guy like Fujinami signed and you don't release him at least once, especially knowing how cheap it would be as a deco hit....is completely asinine

Both guys with their entrance robes plus big gold would be worth the price for an elite 2-pack.

How much did Storm pay for it? It's famously very expensive to license anime characters from their creators, so I'm going to guess "a ton" probably covers it. Look at everything else Storm has done. Hogan, Ali, Tyson, Rodman, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tekken, King of Fighters, Gears of War. All expensive licenses.
