Kurt Angle has a new podcast with Conrad Thompson with episode number one being WrestleMania 19, so far I'm loving it.

It's good, but it seems like Kurt has lost his range. Whether it be injuries, surgeries, substance abuse (none of which I hold against him, I think Kurt Angle is a stand-up guy), he's not three-dimensional with his speaking like he used to be. He used to be able to be happy, sad, passionate, angry, and all over the place with emotions while verbalizing things. Now he just kind of...talks. Delivers the info. It's fascinating info, but it's like part of him is gone. Maybe even simple aging is part of it too. I still love him though, and will continue to listen to the show.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's fairly heavily medicated as well, and a lot of pain killers and muscle relaxants can have a mental effect.

I've listened to the first three shows. I've enjoyed his story telling so far. He is a little monotone but I feel that overall he's a good listen.

He used to take 65 Vicodin a day and went to intense rehab to quit. I agree that the past use probably had an impact that is still seen to this day, but as far as being medicated today, on what? I doubt he'd go back after the damage the original addiction did.

Part of that might have to do with the fact that it's early on and he's not totally comfortable yet. I'm sure we'll see a little more range as the show goes on.

Ronnie Coleman, former mr Olympia who has had severe spine injuries, is very similar in behaviour.

Kurt said during his original addiction the medicine gave him MORE energy, though. And I still doubt he'd go back to opiates, even if they would be necessary now due to bodily abuse of the past. I bet it's a different medication altogether he's taking now.

I love Angle. In my opinion he is the greatest wrestler/entertainer in history. Unfortunately Conrad Thompson makes this a no for me, dog. I’ve had my fill of his nasal Alabama drawl for a lifetime. I can’t even watch Dark Side Confidential if he’s a part of it. I used to listen to Something to Wrestle With religiously, but now I haven’t listened to it in going on two years. Why is he the default wrestling authority guy?

Lots and lots of things and people connected to pro wrestling are based in the south. Did you watch RAW during the Jim Ross/Jerry Lawler era?

Not anti southern, but anti Conrad Thompson. This is the problem with the world today. I mention one person that I dislike, here you come with the sweeping generalizations. This is EXACTLY like everyone who attacks everyone with whom they disagree by claiming them to be republicans or ‘Trumptards’. I’m so over the world today. 🙄

But if you dislike his way of talking, how did you handle guys from Oklahoma and Tennessee voicing the best era of RAW? I just don't understand...

It’s like nails on a chalkboard, but I was able to handle it until he was on every single wrestling related project. That doesn’t make me anti Southern unless Southern-ness is defined by a high-pitched, nasal whine, which it isn’t. I’ve heard Southern voices that are much less irritating.

Then you should've just said, "I can't stand his nasal voice." End of story. The southernness was irrelevant. Then again, you mentioned his accent even in your most recent post. Even if you only dislike some southern voices, using the word at all will be something that potentially angers many from that region. You should just say, "I don't like his voice," and keep words like "southern" and "accent" out of it. I understand you didn't mean to call out an entire group, but people do need to be aware of their language.

Any subtext that a reader takes from what I wrote is on them. Actively trying not to offend people is not something that I care enough to waste energy on. That said, I apologize if you or anyone else was offended, that wasn’t my intention.

The funny part about the whole thing is that most (not all) southerners are conservative, the political side usually against being offended on a regular basis. It's like a bizarro situation.

I am with the person above who said they dont listen because of Conrad.
I cannot stand the man and refuse to listen to anything he does or is a part of.

This is a very good discussion on the political implications of Conrad Thompson's tone of voice.

Like others have said, I wanted to listen until I found out Conrad Thompson was on there, I can’t stand that condescending pr*ck.
