No im in missouri, however my mother in law lives near dallas and is in a hospital with pnumonia (not covid) and we cant get ahold of her. Glad your state prepared. Sorry to hear about your mother in law. The electricity for the hospitalals will hopefully be on gas powered generators, and if I read right, shouldn't be part of the blackouts. I hope yall can reach her soon. Edit: I am a few hours from Dallas.

Meanwhile I had to jump from my balcony the other day just to be able to shovel my way to the front door. About 11 feet of snow here. Welcome to Sweden. (I did a legdrop, I know you were gonna ask)

The snow here in NY has been odd lately. We had a pretty mild winter, then a couple huge storms in the past month. We’ve gotten feet of snow. We shovel, but at this point there’s so much piled up that it’ll probably be April by the time it’s all melted. For the last week, the forecast has been calling for more snow, then at the last minute it turns to rain or a light snowfall. We were originally supposed to get another 8-10 inches tomorrow, and now it’s rain and 3-5 inches is expected Thursday. After the last few years, it’s sad that I catch myself saying things like “only 3-5 inches.”
The major issue with big snow in Texas is probably the preparation and infrastructure. I would suggest to limit any kind of travel, definitely clean your car off completely if you do travel (you don’t want snow or ice flying off your car and hitting someone behind you), and I personally like to shovel often rather than waiting until the end of the storm. I’d rather lift lighter snow that has had less time to freeze to the ground. Over here, we basically already know the routine. Plows know their routes for streets, we know our preferred method for shoveling our property, it’s just like second nature for us.

We got the remnants of this storm last night into this morning...bunch of rain. Worst part was getting soaked at 6:30 this morning. The only drain on my street is on my front lawn, so I had to dig it out so that the street wouldn't flood more than it already had.

Got 27" in PA from the storm a couple weeks ago, and I couldn't believe the amount of people who didn't do anything until it was over. I know it can be frustrating to do it several times over a day or two, but like damn I can't imagine the starting point being two feet or more. First time I went out was early Monday at like 3 AM, then my dad went out I think twice before I woke up in the late afternoon. Then we both went out twice, evening and night. Then I went out again around 3 AM. Tuesday morning he went back out and cleaned up what was left.

Since Texas is pretty much on its own grid down in these parts, I am getting spotty electricity, being down 5 hours at one point, only then up for 30 min. They say full electricity won't happen until several days of above freezing temps...I suspect sunday. Yay

I've never been so glad to not live in Texas anymore. Who'd have thought it would be over winter weather, which is a common occurrence where I live now.
I was telling my wife last night how many occurrences of burst pipes I was seeing on Twitter. She remarked how the pipes there are likely not properly insulated for such weather the way they are up here, and then her face slowly sunk into horror when I explained that most houses in Texas also don't have basements, so most of those pipes were bursting in the walls and ceilings.

Those windmills sure are working great.........
Snow days in Canada were awesome. There's too much snow to go to school, so kids stay home and go play in the snow.

I ended up calling out from work last minute. I just didn't feel like dealing with the snow in any capacity. I think I would have been fine getting there but getting home would have been a bitch.

Don't be peddling partisan nonsense at other people's expense. The large majority of failures are linked to other non-renewable sources (because those compose the majority of Texas's power grid), along with improper preparatory steps thanks to the state's lack of regulatory guidelines. Just making sure facts are fairly represented here.

I may finally be able to get out of the house after 1 pm tomorrow since it will be above freezing. It has been a rough ride, and I am seeing pics of empty food shelves which is kind of terrifying, but some stock to happen saturday. Hopefully the food supply chain comes back quickly and wasn't damaged too badly. Water is ok here, but not in a lot of the county. So many sad stories I have been reading from people in my area. I definitely am steady scared from all of these happenings. This has been very rough, as I know it has been for so very many across the states.

When I was growing up the townhouse complex I lived in wasn't exactly first class. Sidewalks weren't shoveled until noon. Going to school in high school my first class was at 8:10am. There was a kindergarten in the area that started at 8:30am.
I woke up a few times after nasty snowfalls and had to manage my way through a couple of feet of snow to get to the main road. Walking in that much snow is bullsh*t. And then I realized I could skip my 1st class and all the parents and children that went to the kindergarten for 8:30 would "clear" the sidewalk for me by walking it first.
I never told them, but I appreciated their work.
