This question came to me after recently watching WM 22 again.
For me, WM22 is one that always stands out like a sore thumb. I love WM19 - WM24, but WM22 just seems like a step below the other events during that time period. It stinks too as being from Chicago, I remember being hyped for the event when it was announced as the host city.
To me, the matches just didn’t seem like big-time matchups (no pun intended with the theme song). I was 15 at the time and a huge Batista fan, so with him being injured, the WHC match and Rey’s story didn’t interest me. I wasn’t into Cena so his match with HHH didn’t do much for me either (I’ve watched it a few times and outside of the great crowd, the match itself just seems lackluster for a WM main event). Taker facing Henry was a throw-away streak match as well since we all knew Taker was 100% winning. Benoit put on a below-par performance for himself (he was stuck with JBL to be fair), and the opening tag match wasn’t much more than a squash. MITB was a huge drop-off for me from the previous year as well (why were guys like Flair and Finley thrown in there). And you can throw in the Boogeyman/Booker and Candice/Torrie trash to top it off.
Edge/Foley and Trish/Mickie are the only matches that felt “WM worthy” to me. I’ve watched the event a few times now and it always seems like a chore to get through. Anyone else feel the same way about WM22?

Agreed!
To be honest, the best thing about Wrestlemania 22 was the opening video. The Shinedown song "I Dare You" and the Bullets and Octane song "Save Me Sorrow" were two of the greatest Wrestlemania videos I ever seen for an opening.
Eddie passing away, Batista being injured, Undertaker being in a match with Mark Henry, and HBK in a match with Vince McMahon just seemed to take away from this event.

Edge/Foley definitely is match of the night. I actually didnt mind HBK/Vince.JR on commentary selling the whole thing added to it.
But yeah definitely everything else was lackluster. Great HOF class that year though with Bret,Mean Gene,Sherri etc.

It was ok, but after the surprisingly great Hogan/McMahon match at WM19, I just didn’t get into it much. Had a few cool spots but nothing we hadn’t seen in previous HBK street fights or McMahon beat-downs.

It was better than 20 but worse than 21. It could've been better but Edge and Foley goes down as one of my favourite matches.

I’d put 20 above 22 mainly due to the world title matches. 20 had a lot of filler but the world title matches, plus Jericho/Christian and the spectacle of the return of “Deadman” Taker give it the edge to me.

One of my favorite Manias growing up. Have not watched it since 06. But I guarantee the nostalgia factor would make me still love it today as I loved the year 2006 in WWE and am a big fan of pretty much everyone on the show.

YES! went to it live for my little brother who LOVED it!, but i felt kinda underwhelmed. no really kick ass matches to look forwasrd to even other than micheals vs mcmahon. some matches ended up being good, but felt less than "big time" for sure! cena vs hhh as main event - UGH!

I mean, I found every wrestlemania since 18 to be lackluster outside the undertaker matches and wm 19 and 20's main event so I'm probably not the best person to weigh in on this

I mean, I found every wrestlemania since 18 to be lackluster outside the undertaker matches and wm 19 and 20's main event so I'm probably not the best person to weigh in on this WrestleMania X8 will always be iconic because of Hogan/Rock, but without that match it is easily one of the weakest WrestleManias ever especially when compared to the previous year which is often regarded as the greatest. WrestleMania 22 did feel like a letdown coming off the heels of WrestleMania 21. That event being in LA definitely had a BIG TIME atmosphere which was lacking at Wrestlemania 22 despite it being the tagline. Edge/Foley was easily the match of the night and one of the few highlights from that show. Cena/HHH did nothing for me and there was not a chance in hell Cena was losing that match at that point in his career. The 2006 Hall of Fame ceremony on the other hand, as previously mentioned, was one of the best classes ever. Bret's speech remains my favorite to this day.

Yeah Edge/Foley and Trish/Mickie were the only matches I enjoyed. The World Title triple threat would have been better had it been given the time that Triple H and Cena dragged on for. Hated HBK vs Vince. Everyone here seemed to love it at the time. Money In The Bank was fine and RVD winning lead to something great. Henry hadn’t reached his potential yet so his match with Undertaker felt like a random IYH 95 Taker match.
Would rank pretty low on my Mania rankings.

I probably enjoyed it more at the time than I would now looking back on it, but probably a middle of the road Mania in general. Most certainly ranks lower than every other Mania between 17-24.

I get Batista getting injured threw plans in the air, but that WHC match still feels like one of the most randomly thrown together world title matches at any WM. I don’t think many fans outside of kids cared for Rey’s “honoring Eddie” storyline, and considering his terrible booking post WM and Randy’s pending suspension, I think I’d have just done Angle/Taker for the title at WM. Either save their match for WM, or let them have a rematch with Taker getting his win back from the previous month. If they weren’t going to book Rey seriously, why give him the title at all.

The best thing about WM22 is the random poster of Cena delivering a bulldog to Booker T, which isn't even a match on the card

One thing I recall that is great about the show is how over Triple H was in front of the markiest of marks fresh off his “reign of terror”
