TL;DR = The movie was exactly what I thought it would be. Bad. But an entertaining bad.
Spoilers below...
It was a fun movie throughout and I never lost interest. But that is also because I have a huge bias out of my love for the franchise. Because let’s be real. The writing was awful. Little to no character development. Cole Young was useless and uninteresting. The villains literally had no character development whatsoever. Reiko and Nitara were completely useless and were basically just fodder to get a few iconic fatalities off.. Kabal being in the movie was odd as well. He’s the kind of character you would want to build up to, not just throw in at this stage with no context. I did like Shang Tsung though.
Goro was comical. Having this grand entrance for him only to have him lose his first fight against our no-personality protagonist was just dumb. At least have him kill a few people to set the tone.
Scorpion and Sub-Zero were cool. The first seven minutes of the movie is such top-quality that it’s pretty deceiving actually because it makes you think the rest of the movie may be like that and it couldn’t be any different lol.
Sonya was interesting. That actress is like a poor man’s Rachel McAdams. Raiden was cringe. Liu Kang and Kung Lao were okay. The new Liu was no Robin Shou that’s for sure.
Kano stole every scene he was in. I liked the idea of him not being a bad guy, but rather an antihero. I was a little disappointed that he just quickly reverted to being a stereotypical villain.
The more I think about it, it’s kind of crazy that it took 25 years to get this movie. I mean the writing was so lazy. There was no tournament. It’s literally just a few people tracking another few people. We had one great opening scene and then an hour plus of drawn out exposition and then a final 15-20 minutes or so of fighting with some gore sprinkled in to please the audience.
And yet in spite of all that criticism (and believe me I have so many more negative things to say about it), I would still 100% watch a sequel LOLOLOL.
I love you.

This was awful. This made the 95 release look like gold. Bad acting & cheesy 1 liners. And the fight scenes weren’t all that good.
