westwoodonepodcasts.com/pods/talk-is-jericho/some notes i got from reddit Jericho goes back and asks about the wave management. He asked if the previous waves are done manufacturing once newer waves are set to release. The figures will stop manufacturing with the exception of Series 1 because of skin tone issues. There will be a very obvious label on Unrivaled Series 1 VERSION 2 Wants to respect the early collectors that purchased the figure on day 1 Supply has increased every wave. Constantly calibrating and measuring Fall: When Unrivaled and Unmatched are released interchangeably, scalpers, brickseek users, and others with insider knowledge will become irrelevant. Walmart has identified that AEW has been very productive and are fully on board. Asks for more opportunities to work with AEW in the future. Adding Target in spring; Gamestop later in the year. Waves will be released every two months until Unmatched where AEW figures will begin to launch every month.

My GameStop’s always have good stuff, very few collectors in my neck of the woods, always find Black Series stuff. Sounds like again they are trying to manage supply and demand. Don’t understand the Brickseek comment, I use it to see when I need to hit a store to get figures, it’s helpful especially since they sell out so quick.

He's talking about figures being more prevalent in the fall and so the scalpers who use apps won't be going as hard after them. I recommend listening to the whole episode. It was a good listen.

I think he means like using brickseek to try and scalp will be irrelevant, and you can actually use brickseek to just see if the figures are there, rather than having to rely on it to have any hope in hell of finding them. I could be wrong.

I could be wrong. Yeah, no question that scalpers use Brickseek to find product and scalp it. Collectors do too, obviously. But if supply and demand are closer in alignment, people lose the inventive to scalp. Even now, I can't see most people making more than a few bucks after fees, shipping, etc. Then again, it's probably not wise to assume that all scalpers are great at business either.

Do I buy a full set of Series 1 version 2?... I think so.
Glad to be done with Series 1 v1 hunting and knowing they arent making anymore, so it closes that chapter.
Hopefully he's right and the scalpers leave us alone.

I haven’t found a single one in store yet. I don’t think I’ll collect these as much as I want to. I would like to walk into a store and find some kind of new figures. Between these and mattel. It’s been horrible. I hope for AEW sake the distribution gets better.

To add to that, he noted that WM didn't have a lot of faith in the first wave. The expectations they had for the first waves were absolutely shattered out the gate. They're painfully aware that they have supply issues, but it's not as simple as just making more to meet demand.
Sounded to me like they're adjusting and by the fall they'll have things more in control.

When he said "interchangeability" does that mean, interchangeable parts or When people change out the figures with other figures in stores and steal parts and/or figures?

It was a pretty standard interview from JP. Worth a listen if you're not familiar with him, but not anything we haven't heard previously.
The one interesting thing is Jericho brought up the story of him buying his first WCW figure, and it ringing up as Sting/Hogan at the register. Jeremy said some manufacturers will do that to clear out dead stock - sell the retailer on X units of a big name like Hogan/Sting, and then ship something that might be less desirable under that product number. Interesting insight, and something I could totally see happening in the 90's.

More that the two lines are essentially the same line with two different names. Any figure can be in either line interchangeably.

Very good listen and will be interesting to see the strategy going forward. I am all for more product coming out but it will be interesting to see how long they can keep up the demand of monthly releases. Excited for new product to come and appreciate Jeremy giving some insight.

Would love to hear anymore things people thought were interesting. Due to Jericho's COVID denial, spreading it at his concerts, then his huge ties to Trump and his wife showing up at the insurrection, can't listen to his podcasts anymore. Too bad. They are entertaining. I too don’t listen to the podcast anymore

Interesting insight, and something I could totally see happening in the 90's. Heard that from Jericho when he was on the Major Pod, and also from Paul Wight that all his figures rung up as "Hulk Hogan" when he was buying a bunch of his first fig for family. It's not out of realm of possibilities that Hogan was getting those rights, but I have seen that before. It's also sometimes happens when a company has a limited POS system, or buys limited amounts of that SKU.

Yeah, I had heard the stories before and figured it was one of the two scenarios you mentioned. I found it sort of interesting that Jeremy would say that it could have basically been a bait and switch on the manufacturer's end. The way he brought it up definitely made it sound like it's something he's seen on more than one occasion in the industry. I think sometimes there's an attitude that toy companies are these benevolent entities that just want to make kids and collectors happy. And the industry isn't all sunshine and bunny rabbits.

Listened to this last night walking the dogs. Good listen, I enjoyed it.
Was super interesting to hear some of the names Jeremy threw out in terms of who he's excited to make.
