I have been looking but can't find anything so I wanna confirm
Was their no interaction between Flair and Dibase in WWF? I know in the 92 rumble Flair came down as Dibase was going back and Dibase glanced at Flair, but Flair ignored it
I always thought them in a group together would have been perfect

woulda been a hell of a match in 1988/89! I hate to say it but I think late 80s Dibiase versus late 80s Flair IN WWF, Dibiase would have ruled that feud. Late 80s WWF Dibiase was head and shoulder over early 90s Flair. Flair would have been out of place in late 80s WWF even moreso than 1990s Flair. I know there's only like 5-7 years of age difference but as a kid I would have thought it was 20 years. Maybe Flair would have wound up turning face since fans would have thought the evil Dibiase was beating up the grandfatherly looking Flair. Flair may have a better career overall than Dibiase, mostly because of longevity and being in the promotion that did heel champs more than face but Dibiase was a winner in WWF while Flair in his first run was pretty much a failure. |

Dibiase was great in his run and is one of my favourites but Flair was a main eventer for pretty much his whole first run and was a 2 time wwf champ (first win came within 6 months of arriving) Dibiase never officially won the wwf belt and while he headlined house shows and ppvs against hogan and savage he lost to them. He only ever won the tag belts and that was 5 years after he debuted in 87. |

Dibiase was a winner in WWF while Flair in his first run was pretty much a failure. Sorry I dont get it, How was dibiase a winner but flair was a failure? Dibiase was great in his run and is one of my favourites but Flair was a main eventer for pretty much his whole first run and was a 2 time wwf champ (first win came within 6 months of arriving) Dibiase never officially won the wwf belt and while he headlined house shows and ppvs against hogan and savage he lost to them. He only ever won the tag belts and that was 5 years after he debuted in 87. Dibiase had a solid 6 year run and was usually in high profile storylines. It took him about 5 months to get into a high profile feud between Hulk and Andre and while Flair was given the belt 5 months after his debut it was taken off him even quicker. WWF fans didn't care about Flair but they got into Dibiase. They wanted to see him crushed by Macho, Hogan, Jake, Bossman, Steiner Brothers EVEN Virgil. I am a huge Flair fan and respect the hell out of him for his accomplishments but to a WWF fan he was a 70 year old guy thinking he was a champion and it didn't make sense. To a WWF fan he was just like if that Paul Lee guy came to WWF at the time doing the Nature Boy gimmick. He wouldn't fit and fans wouldn't believe him though I'm sure Flair is a lot more talented than Lee. Fans wouldn't have cared any less if Macho was facing Skinner, Repo Man or Berzerker. They wanted to see Macho and they also wanted to see the Elizbeth photos I'm sure. But among all the participants in the match at WM VIII-Macho, Flair, Elizabeth, Perfect and Heenan I am sure fans care the least about Flair. I am sad to say it. Dibiase was a guy who didn't need a belt while Flair needed it to cement this "real world's champ" gimmick that really wasn't very interesting. Dibiase was like a Bossman, Jake, Perfect-a guy who may never need a belt but still had great positions with the company. Flair, again, needed the belt. It was bad timing and probably wrong of WWF to think they could bring him in for a worthwhile run at the time. Most JCP guys didn't fair well either. Him leaving so quickly and Vince accepting was both of them admitting failure. Going back to my original post, to me Dibiase staying so long and always having a good spot on the card just shows he was a bigger winner in WWF than Flair. Even until Dibiase's last match he had a high profile spot on the card. Opening match or not, Razor beating him probably propelled Razor to a much higher spot. And even as bad as the Million Dollar Team was he was still manager of a lot of high profile guys. its not that one was better than the other its just flair wasnt a wwf type guy. in 92 it was perfect timing for him to give him a good solid year and that was it then back home for flair. dibiase also wouldnt have done as werll in NWA/WCW as flair by any stretch. he def needed the Million $ Man character to get over like he did. but when i think of them wrestling a dream match, i think along the lines of Flair coming over in 88/89 while still super hot in WCW, maybe as champ, or a wwf vs wcw dream card facing Dibiase in his height as a heel. that is a mega-dream match for me. and also, just like flair, i always felt brain busters were out of place as well. no matter they beat everyone and champs twice, still feel like them and flair were always nwa/wcw guys. same with whindam, vader, sting and a few others. even luger i felt was at home more in nwa/wcw. |

If they could have kept showing the big gold belt on TV, it would have been funny if after Flair won the WWF title at the Royal Rumble Ted DiBiase purchased the "Real World Championship" for dirt cheap. This would have stuck it to WCW that he was buying the belt for cheap and DiBiase would have finally purchased a World Championship Belt.

Flair/DiBiase also were in the 93 Rumble match together for a little bit. They were beating up Backlund and Bobby is like''can you get arrested for beating up the elderly?'' lol

I dont think either was a failure and as a fan watching at the time i was totally into Flairs run as much as Dibiase. Both 2 of my all time favourites and would have loved to have seen them lock up at any point - enjoyed the Mid south and other territory matches they had and any reason to see them square off would be great to me. |
