I know a lot of people seem to really hate Dusty's WWF run, or at least the polka dots...
But were they really that bad? I personally thought they complimented his flamboyant personality at least better than a plain pair of trunks with DR printed on them. It was a unique look at the time and it made him more marketable from a toy/trading card perspective. I understand he didn't need them, but I definitely think people make too much of a big deal about Dusty being "forced to wear polka dots and it made him a joke"
I'm sure I'm in the minority but I prefer the overall look (even if his workrate was down from a few years before).

I didn’t hate the polka dots, but I preferred his previous looks more.

i didnt like it at first, felt it was kinda a rib on him for being a nwa guy, but it grew on me and im glad they did it so it gave his wwf run something special or different. and then yes, LOVE it in figure form!

The polka dots made him pop in the WWF.
If you look at Survivor Series 90 and Royal Rumble 91 he wore his old NWA style of look. He looked boring and just very NWA'ish. The polka dots gave him a sports entertainer look that the WWF was always known for.

I enjoyed his feuds with Mach and DiBiase but overall I prefer his NWA run.
Although my fav promo of his came from the WWF at SSlam 90.''When you gonna get mad big Dust, when you gonna get even big Dust!''

I watched it after through coliseum videos and home recordings, but was still a youth when I first saw this incarnation of Dusty - and I hated it. I wasn't aware of his earlier NWA days but I saw him in the NWO so I knew he'd kept relevant in the business, but couldn't understand why as I always fast forwarded his matches
him and the genius were probably my most disliked wrestlers when I was a youngster watching classic 80s wwf.
1970s WWWF dusty takes the cake

I know a lot of people hated the polka-dots, but I liked them. Granted, I started watching wrestling in 1989 so I didn't know Dusty from his AWA/Florida/JCP/NWA days, so when I think of Dusty its in the polka-dots. I agree, the WWF was very cartoonish at the time and adding this made him stand out. They most likely were a rib by Vince, but, like most anything, Dusty turned it into gold - he got way over anyway. I really enjoyed his WWF run, the matches weren't that great, but the feuds and build were. He did really well with Savage and DiBiase, but don't forget about Boss Man, that program was fun as well. I liked the traditional polka-dots (black and yellow), but I really liked the ones he started wearing after Summer Slam 1990 (black and red), it was kind of a blend of his WWF days and old NWA days - he seemed to wear black and red a lot then so it was a nice blend.

He looked ridiculous. Nothing else I can say on that matter.

Rib or not it’s what everyone remembers about his WWF run. I mean here we are talking about it 30 years later. If I had to guess I’d say that it started as a rib and he made it work.

It is easy to look back on and say it was silly, but I loved Dusty when he was in the WWF. He was so much fun and his character fit the era perfectly.

I loved seeing Dusty in that outfit and dancing to the theme song and having fun. Even when he was much older it was still fun seeing him dance to that theme. I grew up with that Dusty, not the NWA one so it's what I knew best. Also he's probably one of the most memorabilia NWA to WWF guys from that era. Others tried their hand in WWF and it didn't wort out as well. He did better than Garvin, the Brainbusters, Windham and I'd say even better than Flair. Flair's push was way too forced. Fans got into Dusty.

The first time I ever saw Dusty he was in the Polka Dot attire so it will always be nostalgic to me. Compared to his NWA attire the polka look was more fun and marketable.

I get it looked wierd seeing him in polka dots after his nwa character but it didn't really affect him being dusty to me. Could be fun and as he showed with the dibiase feud could still pull of the serious stuff if he needed.

You always have to respect the classic trunks, but in truth I always liked the polka dots.

I never saw it as a big deal since it was just focusing on another part of his persona. There was the guy who was the epitome of Southern wrestling in his basic trunks and cowboy boots, then there was the guy who wore fur coats and colorful hats. The polka dot persona was just emphasizing the fun-loving, slick-talking side of Dusty to fit with the WWF vibe of that era.
