so several years ago I took one of those Ancestry DNA test....after years of being told i was part native American, having regalia and visiting sacred places, turns out they were all full of crap lol I was also shocked to see no Irish either since my father has red hair, and i have red facial hair, it was always believed that we had irish in us. So I traded in my Indian choker necklace for a Scottish kilt. huzzah! I also have opted in to celebrating traditional holidays and adding cultural aspects into my families already in place traditions. For an example we celebrated Samhain as well as St. Nicks day with my kids this last year. They loved it. This is my chart Attachment Deletedcurious to see if anyone else has similar stories. How did it affect you emotionally? How do you now celebrate your new found heritage? Do you celebrate traditional cultural holidays

My lineage is Canadian first, then Eastern European - Polish, Russian, and Ukranian. As well as British - Welsh and English. We come from what is called Jewish Ashkenazi ancestry which comes up in tests as well, don't even know how.

According to my mom her side has heritage from a variety of places and my dads dad was a straight off the boat Danish immigrant. my great great grandfather was a German immigrant, story is that their family were lace makers for the king/queen/princess of wales (this would have been pre 1900)

In the ancient world we left Israel in 70 CE when the Romans destroyed the Second Temple. In the 9th Century we settled in Germany, then over the centuries many moved into Eastern Europe. I imagine genetic mutations caused our DNA to look a little different from the biblical Hebrews, but we are Semitic and brethren to Arabs and other Middle Eastern ethnic groups.

Both my parents come from families with Irish last names but I don't care enough to find out more. I once tried to trace my family tree backwards, but then I realized I don't like my family that much. I'd do one of those ancestry gimmicks if someone gave it to me, but I'm not going out of pocket to dig any further than I already know.
I have a great uncle some degrees of "great-great-etc." back who was the last empowered mayor of Cambridge before they restructured and ceded power to the city council. Woopeedee.
I'm more shook to learn that Dr. Angus is no longer of native descent. It's like nothing even matters.

Everybody wants to be something, and when your family history isn't a whole lot more interesting than "we came over here for the same reason an entire generation of our people came over here", you go to the well to try and find something with a bit more meat on the bones. My cousin's father did the same to her for 30 years. She did a 23 & Me and found out she had less than a percentage of whatever the hell she was supposed to be. That didn't stop her from periodically claiming to have a descended from a whatever-tribe chief, but I guess when your life is that drab, it's more interesting than "my mother's family came here because of a famine and my dad descends from a long line of WASP as WASP can be Europeans".

I mean there may be some native in the older folks, but I didnt receive any of it and neither did my dads siblings whove taken the dna tests. We had family reunions at the Trail of Tears state park for years. took wagon rides that explained how our ancestors came through the area. All lies. I was curious just to see how much i had and turned out it was none. So now I turn all my focus to my scottish/celtic/scandinavian heritage I dont blame the older folks, they were probably told the same thing. I didnt tell them the results either.

I did the DNA test too a few years ago with my family. I always just assumed I was 100% Italian, because I'm first generation American and all my known ancestors are from Italy. I found that I'm not full Italian, but the other nationalities kind of made sense. I'm mostly European. I found out I'm about 79% Italian, about .6% Scandinavian, and about .2% "Broadly European". What was shocking is that I'm apparently almost 20% Western Asian & North African. When I drill down really deep into the breakdown though, it is a bit more understandable. The bigger chunks of Asian and African that show up for me are areas around the middle east that were under control of the Greek and Roman Empires. I guess my lineage just isn't as far removed from all that as I expected. It might explain why my whole life, Arabic people have seems to assume I was also Arabic.

I’ve wanted to take a DNA test. I bet I’m more “Blank” then “Blank”. Then compare the results to my family results, would end up in big arguments. When my brother took the test, 1 of our cousins didn’t believe the results & freaked out. Said she’d pay for a re-test. Whatevs.
My sister in law took 1 years ago & found out she had a brother. She always figured she did, but actually find out was different.

Never had it tested, don't know if the test is legit either lmao. But according to my dad I'm Irish and German and according to my mother (which means it's a lie) I'm Irish and Italian. There's probably some other stuff in there too. I don't know, all I know for sure is that I'm 100% mega chad balla swag.

I'm 100% Dutch. My parents immigrated here in 1957.
I have a friend who thought he was mostly Irish. He got a huge Celtic tattoo, a Guinness tattoo & the Irish flag tattoo. He takes the ancestry test & finds out he's 80% Italian & 20% Irish. Whoops! He eventually got his ink work covered up with the Motorhead/Snaggletooth logo, and (I'm not sure why) a Native American headdress.
