One of my all time favorites. Still shocked VKM never thought he should have decent run on top.

Light one up in his honor. If you didn’t watch wrestling in the late 90’s through the 00’s you’ll never know just how over he really was. I’ll never forget during the invasion angle how he was supposed to be a heel but absolutely no one was booing. Dude was way ahead of his time and deserves it

Savio Vega is rumored to be the final member of the hall of fame. Having made my way through the New Generation recently, super happy for Savio if true. Very under appreciated.

His matches with Jerry Lynn are literally some of the best ever imo. I think his WWE run was better than it probably had a right to be because they kind of just let him be for the most part. I was floored when they put the title on him. Credit to getting the payoff for what was a seed planted in ECW.
There is a ton that should have been done differently with the Invasion, particularly with how they handled RVD and Raven, but I still think his early 2000s stuff stands out. He had some great matches with Jeff. His ECW TV Title run will always be my favorite memories of him, but his body of work has always spoken for itself. Absolute legend, and beyond deserving.

Those RVD/Lynn matches still hold up today as some of the best ever. His ECW TV Title reign was great, and he picked up right where he left off in ECW with some great matches with Jeff in 2001. I’ve always felt he should have won the WWF Title at No Mercy 2001, but I get why some people feel it was too soon. However, I’ll 100% always say that he should have won the WHC at Unforgiven 2002. The guy was unquestionably the most popular star in the company and beating HHH would have made him a made man. 2003-2004 he wasted away in the midcard, and 2005 he was injured. I think the timing of his comeback worked great as it played into Vince’s revival of ECW, and who better to lead that brand than RVD. I still say he should have beat Cena clean for the title (it was a hardcore match so Cena loosing wouldn’t have hurt him one bit), but Edge’s interference continued his feud with both guys. Then he was busted by the cops and it was sadly all downhill for his push. Despite being a decorated WWE performer, I still feel they blew his run as he had the potential to be their next huge star.

I know Van Dam got backlash for not wanting to go over seas for the Tribute to the Troops shows (can’t really blame him), but he always seemed to work TV and house shows every week. I’ve always heard that Vince never bought him as being reliable enough to run at the top (with other rumors that guys like HHH fueled those feelings).

Well earned and always loved RVD with how much he kept things real and always had the balls to speak his mind and not play the backstage/back room sucking up and backstabing games.
Hopefully has a few more match in WWE before hanging them up,yes he's lost a few steps at 50 and his last run in IMPACT was pretty bad but think a motivated RVD could still put on some solid matches.A series of matches and feuds with Riddle & Jeff Hardy would be great and could lead to triple threat bout or ladder match.
How epic would a RVD .Vs Hardy ladder match be with their careers on the line.

JR said in one of his books, I forget which one it was, says that they wanted Van Dam to be a major player but he didnt want to work the number of dates the top guys worked. Tribute to the Troops is the only one that I ever heard him say no to (and again like said above cant say I would’nt have done the same), every house show I ever went to RVD was there when guys like HBK and HHH weren’t always so if anything its the opposite. I mean the guy showed up to shows with his knee torn to pieces in mid ‘05, shows the guys love for the business. I feel more potentially that guys like Triple H and HBK were threatened by his talent and popularity and therefore buried him during most of his run to protect their “spot” (you can tell in his shoot interviews that there’s animosity there). RVD was insanely over in 2001 to the point where he should have been world champ somewhere in 2002/2003. His run on Smackdown in 2004 was a joke, I remember thinking when he got drafted how few guys were over there to compete at the main event level thinking he would get an honest shot and then they go and make Bradshaw champion and RVD is taking losses to Rene Dupree and Kenzo Suzuki... Sure he got busted with weed during his run in ‘06 but at that point all he did was shorten his WWE title reign by a potential 12 more days, because they were going to have Edge take it off him anyways at SNME instead of Raw so they could have the Edge/Cena feud they wanted. And with ECW being setup for failure before it even restarted I don’t think him getting busted with weed really threw the trajectory of his career off by much if at all.
