That's a tough case. I think at this point is everything WWECW tried to be. First it of course tried being the Alternative Brand with cult following ; later on to be with the New up and comers; and also brand for rebirth.
It's became the third brand; but it is the rookie brand. But it has taken one more of professional stance since going to the USA. Some of the magic may have left since it's treated more like a rookie brand then the developmental. It has it's benefits and negatives.
It is a very smart move though. It's a nice boot to the neck to the indy scene. Allowing flow strong flow of the hottest indy and worldwide wrestlers to be brought into the WWE. To Control talent. It's sad WWE hasn't done more; the roster since 2014 has never been broader and expansive. You literally have multiples of everything. Highflyers; Japanese Strong style; indy darling; standard Vinny Mac big man; etc etc.
The way I see WWENXT is like say a big company that has mainstream market; creating subbrand that appeals to minority and occult followings. Odd example. I use to work as a assistant store gm for Journeys. Which is a shoe company. Journeys sells conglomerate of shoes that are mainstream. Vans; Converse; Adidas; etc etc etc. Journeys has Journeys Kids which appeals to children's trends; Journeys has Journeys Underground. Which; is to more underground skater brands and alternative trends.
Or Walmart Superstores; creating Walmart corner store; or neighborehood Walmarts to compete with others.

It’s become a glorified training ground for WWE. They see it as what works there doesn’t work here, but at least they are learning how to do WWE on TV. They don’t care if you can wrestle, they care if you can WWE wrestle.
NXT is just a place for the guys and girls to learn. The curve ball here is that it seems more hardcore fans appreciate NXT more than RAW. Probably because it’s less produced and has less of Vinces fingerprints on it.

A huge list of wrestlers have come from NXT only to do nothing in the main roster and leave. Makes you think that of the whole NXT roster, really only like 10% will make it in the main roster with Vince.

While I don't know what the actual percentage is for any of these, I suspect that the odds arent really any worse in WWE than making any major league sport after being drafted. At one point something like 50% of first round draft picks in the NHL completely bust. Something like 20% of MLB draft picks ever see a major league game, let alone stay in the big leagues.

I guess the thing that bothers people is that in pro sports a prospect doesn’t pan out because of talent. In WWE, they get them over in NXT doing one thing, then bring them up to the main roster and do another. If they at least failed at what they were good at, people might accept it a bit more, but IDK

They just got more money from USA Network to have NXT's broadcast rights.
