I do a podcast in which I reexamine players who have strong cases for the baseball hall of fame. I personally think the BBWAA should have their rights taken away and the voting be either 1. fan based or 2. Veteran committee/current player only. There are so many guys who fall through the cracks of the baseball writers voting that it almost makes me mad. one example of a player who got 0 recognition is DWIGHT EVANS. He's the only player in the top 15 All Time for right fielders (ranked by JAWS) not in the hall of fame. After three years on the ballot he fell off in 1999 with 3.9% He has a career war of 67 which puts him ahead of close to 20 hall of famers and for comparison Mike Trout's WAR is 74, and he is a no doubt hall of famer if he retired today. So what do you think? Should the hall of fame change how the voting is? We have some writers return blank ballots, others only fill out 1 or 2 names. Should they get their voting rights taken away? Your answers might be read in my next podcast You can find links to my show here, it can be heard on platforms including spotify and apple podcasts. redcircle.com/shows/worthy-of-the-hall

I always thought every sports HOF should be a combination of writers, retired players, coaches/managers, and executives.
Even as a fan I've seen enough stupid takes on various sports forums to say fans shouldn't have a say.

Fans would be the worst possible option lol.

None of them.
There should be a clear cut set of guidelines. Either you clear the hurdles and get inducted, or you fall short and dont.
What those guidelines would be, I dont know. But that's the way to go.
Maybe every 15 years or so you vote to adjust the guidelines as the game changes.

Also you’d get unsportsmanlike behavior like Jose Reyes in 2011.

Maybe the voting could use a change, but taking it away from the BBWAA is not it, imo.

Set out bowls of food representing nominees in a cageful of hamsters. First 6 that are emptied get in. Everyone else gets sent to the gulag.

Great thread! Anytime someone questions the legitimacy of the WWE hall of fame, I bring up the baseball and football hall of famers and all their imperfections. It's hard for me to say who should have the votes. I think the players will side with their buddies which would include the steroid era cheaters but the writers who may hold grudges because a guy didn't talk to them or because they think no one should get 100% of the vote, will also hinder the voting process. I think the baseball and football halls are so far gone based on the last 20 or so years of inductions that it really shouldn't matter who gets the vote.

To be honest, everyone has their own Hall of Fame anyway. The official one is only slightly more important than anyone else's.

The problem with that is the immense level of difficulty needed in order to keep money out of it.
