Since there is a John Candy appreciation thread, I thought there should be a Robin Williams thread. Robin Williams was one of those comedic geniuses that could make you laugh no matter what. He could play the creepy villain if he wanted to. He's made so many memorable movies in his lifetime, such as Mrs. Doubtfire which is one of his signature films to One Hour Photo where he played a stalker/creep. He even played a villain in Law and Order SVU. In his lifetime he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor 3 times. He was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Good Will Hunting and won the Oscar for his role. He won 2 Emmy's. 5 Golden Globe Awards and an additional was an Honored award. 5 Grammy Awards 2 SAG Awards 2 Saturn Awards Multiple Various nominations for other film awards. There was literally nothing Robin Williams couldn't do.

His stint on SVU was sooooo, so good. Very underappreciated IMO.
Good Morning Vietnam was the first time I was exposed to him that I can recall. Still a powerful film. "What do three up and three down mean to you private?"
Loved Good Will Hunting.
He's got a standup routine at a military base USO show that I love.

He's up there with Carlin. He may not come off as sophisticated as him as it pertains to psychology, evolutionary psychology, political science, history...but he's good. Definitely smart. Then you've got his wacky, out there comedy, films for kids, nutty sitcom Mork & Mindy era, and serious film era (Good Will Hunting). He did it all. Even had a connection to my neck of the woods, Southern Indiana, as before Chicago and Detroit his dad, grandpa, and the rest were residents of Evansville (a few hours west of me, but still cool). He's definitely the man.

One Hour Photo is underrated. When you watch em in the comedies he did and then you see that movie which he plays a character thats on the other side of the spectrum just shows you how talented he was.
He's sorely missed thats for sure.

I always loved this from one of his USO shows. It was great, how he didn't have a clue what was going on, but realizing it was something important, took his hat off and stood until it was over.
He was really a great entertainer, that was more than just the laughs, and it's great that he was able to be recognized for it in his life. He's also the perfect example of not knowing what's going on inside someone's head. It's sad to know the pain that he carried inside of him, while bringing absolute joy to millions of others. But he is definitely in that category of entertainers, that in a way he is immortal, in ways he'll live on for ever, and make people smile for years to come.

Robin Williams was an a master at Improv comedy. He was one of the few guest stars on Whose Line Is It Anyway? who got a standing ovation from the audience. Here's some classic Sesame Street sketches he probably improved.

It's hard for me to watch his stand up because he was a notorious joke thief. I do like some of his acting performances though. Cadillac Man might be my favorite film of his.

"Death to Smoochy" is another one that I liked where Robin was the villain.

My sister in law was able to see him do a stand up show in Milwaukee and after the show her and her best friend went to the hotel bar and there weren't a lot of people there but enough, Williams walked into the place, without security, and spent the night visiting with every table and telling jokes and just being a regular person. He took pictures with everyone. Now that's a class act.
