Not surprising, the collectable and by extension toy market has been bonkers since the lockdown last year. I'm talking people getting in fist fights at target over trading cards level stuff.

Typical Mattel....no mention of WWE at all. Way to go Barbie and American Girls. I know right. The article also includes an interview with Mattel's CEO talking about increasing sales and selling direct to consumer, but there doesnt appear to be plans for an online exclusive Legends line featuring wrestlers from the 70s, 80s and Attitude Era. What kind of a CEO is he?

Sell high. Get out of the toy game. Kids will have better stuff to do again I tend to agree... think the same is about to happen with a bunch of other toy lines and collectables... as soon as people can travel and go to social events without fear or restriction.

And we still paint the god damn torsos flesh tone on singlet tops. Some may scoff, but that’s one of the main reasons I canceled my Sid preorder. I despise that torso. Also not nearly jacked enough even for Kane, let alone a monster like Sid. Sell high. Get out of the toy game. Kids will have better stuff to do again I tend to agree... think the same is about to happen with a bunch of other toy lines and collectables... as soon as people can travel and go to social events without fear or restriction. Agree with both. I spent an ungodly amount on both WWE and AEW figs over the past year. Now that I can at least hit the bars again it’s already tapered off to the point that I’m ready to dump a bunch of what I bought. Once I can properly travel and hit concerts again I’ll probably be back to 90% done collecting as I was before everything went to hell.

Well they certainly didn’t make that increase off WWE, since the shelves were empty most of that quarter

So they only lost 115 million dollars instead of the 210 million a year before. I wish i could just keep losing that much money every quarter and every year and get away with it. There is no way people are going to keep buying toys (if they really are) at this current rate. So when life goes back to normal, mattels sales will drop considerably.

Yeah, anybody who sees this as a positive clearly didn't read past the headline. The last sentence in the article is by far the most relevant to any of us on this board: "Mattel expects higher than anticipated cost inflation, citing plastics and ocean freight as two examples." I really can't see them hanging on at $19.99 for much longer.

Typical Mattel....no mention of WWE at all. Way to go Barbie and American Girls. Actually, this is the first time I've seen them mention WWE during the Q&A session for several quarters.
"WWE has continued to gain strength," Richard Dickson - President and Chief Operating Officer
"WWE, Jurassic, these were the number seven and number eight properties in the category respectively. WWE elite figures were the number two item and we're most excited that Masters of the Universe Origins, this is the fifth item in the first quarter. So we're very excited about the progress that we're making, both on our evergreen brands and new brands to come."
"Action Figures increased 101% driven by Jurassic World, WWE and Masters of the Universe."
