Happy?
Samoa Joe, who was released by WWE this past April, is reportedly returning to the company in a non-wrestling role for the NXT brand.
First reported by Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline and confirmed by Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Samoa Joe has re-signed with WWE to work behind the scenes.
This new position could also include an on-screen role as the new General Manager of NXT. After last night’s NXT TakeOver: In Your House special, William Regal, the current on-screen General Manager of NXT, said it was time for a change. Multiple sources state that Samoa Joe is the favorite to either replace Regal or join him as an act.
According to PWInsider, Paul “Triple H” Levesque was key in bringing Samoa Joe back. Levesque was also key in hiring Joe in 2014 to a unique deal that allowed him to work independent dates at first. However, Joe did eventually transition to a more traditional contract.
Samoa Joe was released by WWE this past April due to budget cuts. Joe was serving as a color commentator on Monday Night Raw. He had not served as an active wrestler since February 2020, when he sustained multiple concussions in a relatively short time.
We will continue to follow this story as more becomes available.

One of the best in the business on the mic. If he can't wrestle, I think a take no nonsense GM on NXT could be a cool role for him, particularly with them building this "the show is in chaos" angle. Regal will be a huge miss though.

Happy about what?
If this is purely about the role(s) he is not yet officially named to, I wouldn't know how he'd be as a coach but he definitely should have a deep depth of knowledge. As an on-screen presence, he can probably bring some great emotion and sell some moments. But adding one engaging character to the show isn't gonna fix whatever is wrong with the product. Super bummed if we've seen the last of him in the ring.
Joe would be the one to ask if he is happy still being on the payroll.
And I guess I'm happy Joe will be allowed to remain a very valuable talent while within WWE, instead of him having the audacity to go elsewhere and suddenly be deemed a talentless hack that brings nothing at all to the industry.
Sincerely didn't know which line of bait I needed to take, so I kept it safe.

Joe is amazing on the mic. He’s kind of perfect for this spot. I hope he’s not totally done in-ring, though.

Very bittersweet if this is the end of his in-ring career, but as long as he still finds a way to cut awesome promos I guess I'll manage.

If this is true (and that's still an if. Meltzer isn't exactly batting 100% with NXT/WWE news, nor is PWInsider), then it's gotta mean Joe has accepted that his in ring career is done. Bittersweet. I loved Joe on commentary, and I could imagine him really thriving in this role, though I'll also be sad to see Regal go and know I'll never see Joe wrestle another match.

I am happy. If he can’t work, Joe can do great things behind the scenes and as an authority figure.

i know they're frowned upon a lot but Id love to see Regal put into a "President" type role over the main roster. Since Vince apparently believes he's too old to be on TV. Let Pearce & Sonya do what they've been doing but have to answer to Regal. Much like in NXT where Regal only shows up for big things, he would only show up (ala Jack Tunney) for major announcements and not just a "McIntyre vs Lashley for the 494,394,382 time on RAW announcement.

Those roles can make for great heels. Just look at Gary Bettman in the NHL lol. Dude gets booed out of the building during every single Stanley Cup presentation.

This must be a mistake... Joe was going to be miraculously cured of his career-ending, concussion issues, and start putting on 5 star classics with Omega.

If true, Samoa Joe is an overrated bootlicker with Stockholm Syndrome.
If false, Samoa Joe is the best in the world and DESERVED to be a twelve time world champion, one reign between each injury. But he was BURIED for Roman and Brock, and that is why the dead fed no longer runs at a profit.

I don’t think Joe would have come back for this role if he was medically cleared. He might be going through something that won’t get him cleared by any company. So maybe Hunter offered him this role instead.
