He friggin quit wrestling, talk about becoming disenchanted. I quit a lot of things in my life after getting burnt out or frustrated with management. It's probably a good thing and I also can't blame Punk. But I do wonder what old school wrestlers or even guys who came up in the 1990s and have the "respect this business" mentality think of him for just walking away. I'm not even just thinking low level guys like Bob Holly and Bradshaw but guys who despite how much fame and fortune they did or do have keep coming back or stuck around for a decade or two or more like Kevin Nash, Hogan, Undertaker. Again, I don't blame Punk. I doubt I'd last a few months in 2000s WWE even if I had the talent to be a main event star. But I'm sure a guy who is one of the top guys and just quits and never returns is probably looked down on.

Today, I feel like people just get it so to speak. They know the lifestyle, a lot of guys also know the consequences these days of that life style. Had you told Hogan, Taker etc back in the day, hey this line of work would have severe consequences, a lot of them maybe would have chosen another occupation. So in many ways, those guys did it with reckless abandon and not really knowing the bad that would come. Guys like Punk probably get a break because he paid his dues, he was successful, and he took a break from it when he was burnt out. I think we all knew, even Punk, that he’d be back some day. You don’t love something like that and just give up on it. It comes back around, it’s what he’s good at, it’s what he likes. We all knew he’d be back and if you watch his interviews, he went from saying “I’ll never be back” to …”if the offer is right”. He knew. Also, maybe if WWE was the only thing around, maybe he wouldn’t be back, who knows. Things change and he’s got other options now. Punk didn’t dislike wrestling, he disliked WWE. Wrestling and WWE went hand and hand at that time so he may have confused hating WWE for hating Westling. Now that the WWE is out of the equation, he can love wrestling again.
