Anyone who watches/listens to Jim Cornette knows his newest schtick is to literally break down every second of every match and segment from all AEW programming (or at least Dynamite and PPVs) and tell us why every little occurrence is “illogical.” My question…does the audience care? For a lot of what Cornette says, there’s a simple rebuttal anyone could give as to how X is indeed actually logical. But beyond that, even if something illogical does happen, does it really matter? Unless it’s humongous, I don’t think the crowd notices or cares. The guy is spitting into the wind, ultimately. People may tune out because programming is boring, but not because it’s illogical. I just ask this because Cornette really has become an adversary as of late for this enjoyable up-and-coming promotion, and I don’t think we can completely and totally ignore him.

I think that Jim Cornette is stuck in an era of wrestling that just doesn't work anymore.
To be fair, TNA kind of started this with the X-Division back in 2002. Jeff Jarrett said he wanted all those guys to wrestle like it was a video game, and just constantly do moves, get up and do them again, and not really sell. So the AEW style of wrestling has been going on for almost 20 years then.
Cornette is just bitter now at the business. It's not the same he remembers and I don't think he can handle that or grasp it.
He bad mouths Kenny Omega, and yet will put over Bobby Eaton. Yet, in 1984, Bobby Eaton WAS a Kenny Omega style wrestler. Doing high flying moves off the top rope, taking bumps that weren't needed. And at the time, guys like him were seen as different from what the business was.
Maybe one day Cornette will get over things in wrestling. From Russo, to AEW, to Austin Aries, I feel Cornette is one rant away from having a heart attack.

And at the time, guys like him were seen as different from what the business was. Maybe one day Cornette will get over things in wrestling. From Russo, to AEW, to Austin Aries, I feel Cornette is one rant away from having a heart attack. Good analysis. That’s interesting about Cornette, because the Jarrett family are the ones who gave Cornette his start in Memphis in the early ‘80s. The same family tree that created AEW’s style in TNA, created Cornette. Personally though, I feel Jim Cornette’s schtick is a bit of an act to make money, like the Stern or Limbaugh of pro wrestling. Jim Ross is better to listen to, because he’s an historian too, is ten years older so can talk about things firsthand even further back than Cornette, and he doesn’t hate the new product. If people are obsessed with everything being “logical,” they should watch boxing or UFC. Pro wrestling will always have cooperation and exaggeration. Brisco and Funk were good for the ‘70s, Omega and the Bucks are good for the 2020s. The fans dictate what the business is, and as long as AEW’s product is performing well in the ratings, Cornette can’t say a damn thing. Beyond that, most of the great living minds in the business - from Foley to Meltzer - are AEW fans. Cornette would have you believe everyone from his generation is a purist who hates modern wrestling, but I’m not seeing that at all. Cornette wants to return to a world that never existed in the first place. In the mid-to-late ‘90s, he used to argue with Shawn backstage about the direction the business was going. Cornette was the stern old-timer and Shawn was the modernist. The funny thing? Cornette is only four years older than Michaels! McMahon is also much more modern than Cornette, and he’s close to 20 years older. Cornette didn’t even come around until the territories were dying out! He wasn’t around in the ‘50s or ‘60s, and was only taking pictures as a teenager in Memphis in the ‘70s. By the time he came into the business, we weren’t far from seeing Vince demolish the territory structure of the industry.

He can easily be ignored because what he is saying often is not reality. He is a shockjock with a podcast. Corny is a valued opinator for his takes & insight on past stuff. Which is why them videos are the only ones I watch of is.
This latest shockjock run has tainted his legacy & will effect how people pay tribute to him & remember him when he eventually passes on. Which is a shame because he essentially Southern Paul Heyman & his impact on the biz is gargantuan.
Also as touched on already. Every era has had the back in my day old schoolers pitch forking. I watch shoot interviews from even 2007 & it's the same thing. Old timers saying there is too many high spots. While in the AE there was too much sex, drugs & rock n' roll, the Luchas on Nitro were all flips & no sell etc.
Those who do not adapt get passed by & Corny is in that boat.

Smokey Mountain Wrestling was goofy as crapand Cornette was a cartoon style manager, it's very often the pot calling the kettle black
that said, some of the things he has said about timing, too many dives, booking decisions etc is accurate. the guy has immense experience even if he's past his due date, but his black and white 2D view on the industry and how people should perform within it is stuck in the 80s.

His opinions haven't mattered for a loooong time as far as I'm concerned.

Cornette has dedicated his life to the business and his viewpoint shouldn't be totally cast aside. But he has found an audience to entertain and boy, does he give 'em what they want. I'm not gonna question the legitimacy of his personal feelings but at some point, the genuine concerns of a mind seeing memories thru rose-tinted glasses gives way to a perpetual showmanship that has been ingrained in him from his decades in the industry, perhaps even from bad experiences with some of the indie hopalongs he now slanders on a daily basis.
Words do matter, but I'm not losing sleep over them until Corny fuels a "friendly tour" of Daily's Place.

He's stuck in the past in a lot of aspects, but bang on with opinions on other things.
I'll say this for certain, If Jim Cornette ever walked out of that heel entrance jaws would hit the floor like never before in AEW's fan base.

Cornette has tunnel vision when it comes to wrestling, everything should be one style and one look. There are a billion different styles of wrestling, and they all have their place. His belief that all these other styles are killing the business couldn't be more wrong. The reason wrestling is dwindelling is because it peaked more than 15 years ago in the mainstream and will never pick up again. It's a niche product and he can't understand that.

They don't. The intersection on the venn diagram of 'people who like Cornette's shtick' and 'people who would potentially enjoy AEW' is extremely small, and the ones that do live in that middle ground are likely able to compartmentalize the two conflicting things anyways.

As someone who regularly listens to his podcast, I wish he’d stop reviewing AEW shows. Why watch something that makes you sick? Maybe deep down he likes it? If it was booked like SMW it would be getting much lower ratings than it is. When Cornette booked ROH in 2011 and 2012 the ROH fan base hated it because he booked it like SMW which nobody wanted to see. I agree with the person who said if you want logic at 100 percent to watch real combat sports. Pro wrestling can’t be 100 percent logical. Never was and never will be.

Cornette is hilarious. 4 years ago he would obliterate the stuff WWE would do and certain types of fans would be hanging on his sack talking about how he should be booking everything. Fast forward, those same fans are now "All Elitist" and hate everything about him because he craps all over their stuff as well.
Like Corny or not, you always know where he stands and it never changes.

My life is better without hearing his 🐴💩 spewed all over the place.
I honestly wish his name would stop being uttered in this section because he brings nothing to the table. He’s a troll who talks about how he wants wrestlers to die in ring and his disgusting mutant fans eat it up.
He’s probably just mad that no one on the AEW roster will return his wife’s calls…

*shrugs*
It's his opinion and I'm sure he has some valid arguments but it doesn't affect my enjoyment of AEW so I don't really care.

In all fairness about 90% of the time if someone's kicking out of a finisher it's the Cross Rhodes. At this point I'm more surprised when people don't kick out of it. It'll probably take two or three to put QT Marshall down in that strap match.
