More so on the women front, Ever since they changed the mid crunch so it's just one piece like a basic figure I've just gone off of them, they feel so hard to use the last one I bought was Basic Ronda Rousey but you just couldn't do much with them? Have they improved on them since I would like to get some of the women that I've missed out on

Nope. They are fine for display but not much use for play which is too bad because this us the line more geared towards younger customers.

Honestly they’re not that bad if you’re ok with a quick royal rumble they’re great also the more loose they are the better but not too wiggly lol

Little Jimmies might find creative ways to play with Basics, but you might have a hard time creating poses and moves. The current TTL-like Basics are too limited.

They’re not great for posing or playing. There’s a lot of moves you just can’t do properly, which defeats the purpose of a kid trying to play. They need elite articulation hips so the legs can move side ways too.

People in here acting like they didn't play with LJN's or Hasbros or BCA which were worse to play with. Jakks R3s, RAs and TTL weren't the best for playing with either but we all made do. I'd add DAs as well since I found them clunky and odd.
We don't have perfect figures. Some will be better than others. However, it's all directed towards kids and they aren't worried about the things older collectors are.

I grew up in the BCA & TTL era so Basic's IMO are a huge upgrade. As a kid I didn't care about articulation, building up my figure fed was my main goal.
When TTL's came out I didn't throw away my BCA's due to their less movement.None of that stuff bothered me.

They were just easy to handle and pull off moves better and faster. A sit-out powerbomb for example looked great for BCAs. I remember giving so many pearl river plunges back in the day. I always thought mattel should add rubber boots/feet to the wrestlers, it would be less clanky sounds and less scuff marks left on other toys. I'm not talking about BCA type rubber feet more so the create a superstar line had the best balance imo. Easier to stand for display as well. Not too hard, not too soft. Less stiffness too. And for the record, I absolutely hated the jakks RA figures. You couldn't do anything with them as for powerbombs and what not, pretty much the same with the current basics. I would love mattel to tackle the GI Joe scale. And improvevover the jakks deluxe micro? figures. I didn't care for the hasbros back in the day, but my uncle had the ring and I played with his GI Joe's in the ring rather than hasbros.

I will say this much - By sheer factor of the hip joints, the women's basics are better than the mens
But
Have they improved in playability since the Ronda basics? Not one bit. Mind you, they haven't gotten worse either, but no, there hasn't been any improvement since then in the articulation department.
What i *will* say is that the look of them has improved a bit. I clamored for an expansion of the new un-jointed torsos for what seemed like ages before they finally moved past only having the bikini-top one and the full shirt one. I think I've noticed maybe four? different women's basic torsos now, not counting the Nia Jax one? I think? It's hard to say. I just know that for display purposes the look of the women's figure bodies has improved. They've even started throwing in details like sculpted parts and knee braces again.
Of course, those improvement seem to have come at the cost of some pretty blurgh faces and headsculpts but you can't win em all.

Not too good for play, there's a few random ones with more articulation like Mia Yim, but I think most people use them for the headscans or they buy them if that character is unlikely to get a release in the Elite line.

Kids use their imagination they don’t need to be articulated for kids to enjoy them. As a kid my friends and I played with the little plastic army men for hours on end never caring that they couldn’t change their poses. My little cousins loved my LJN’s and had no trouble having matches with them. And my nieces favorite thing to play with when she was 3 or 4 was a sculpted Elmo shaped shampoo bottle. They don’t need articulation to have fun with toys.

It just seems to me that toys that are more likely to be played with should be easier to move around and have looser joints than toys that are more likely to sit on shelves.

I remember giving so many pearl river plunges back in the day. They certainly could do that but they couldn't move their arms out only up and down. I mean if we could put together the best of every figure type then it'd be great.

I think different kids have different styles of play, but the kind of meticulous kid who needs Elite or Ultimate-style articulation is rare. I was one of those kids, but in my experience as a super uptight kid I know you just end up leaning towards the moves that do look good with whatever articulation scheme the figures have (Hasbros: all DDTs, all the time).
I wish the Basics had a little more ROM but honestly the important thing is that they stick to that magic $10 price point. As it stands now, I think they're probably satisfying for kids. I do wish they had more in the realm of hip articulation, at least for Cruiserweight types, but they have enough movement in the arms that I think most kids would be happy.

Not at all, I was around 11 during the TTL era and looking back they were awful to play with. Most of the hip joints were stiff which restricted them to upper body movement. At the time it didn't really bother me, I always found a way to do the moves. Also when kids see Elites they are more drawn to the entrance gear and accessories than the articulation.

Haha and to think when I was a kid in the 80's, the only wrestling figures available were those LJN hunks of no articulation rubber figures.

Playing with the Hasbros and BCAs were both incredible. The Titan Trons were harder.
I actually think these days -- to actually wrestle with them and do so aggressively -- you'd be better off with the Basics. The Elite's seem more breakable and not as sturdy for doing moves, slamming to the mat, etc.

Just go hog wild Let your inner toddler out to play
Pick them figures up and just smash them together! Have a good ol time with it!
