I doubt they make decisions on their wants. I’d bet an Ultimate Diesel they made this based on data driven decisions. Some set of data or consumer trends made them think this was the set to sell. Either new generation fans hitting a sweet spot in age to buy higher end stuff or that the new generation hasn’t had as much product. There is no way the WWE Mattel decision makers are willing to look bad or waste money on a product because they are a Diesel or Doink mark. It's very obvious they do. Bill at least for sure. He put Nakamura and Balor in not one, but two seperate premium lines each. Nakamura almost completely killed the Ultimates before it got started. I don't blame him though. If I was designing the line I'd put in as many Edge figures as possible. To be fair at the time of planning which was a year prior to release Nakamura and Rousey were on fire and really popular. It's a different story when they were both released at retail.

Haha well I only have one thing to say about the general consensus in this thread…
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I’m still hoping it gets funded! Although, Mattel’s silence is concerning me atm. There’s no comment on the second policy reversal. Also, Steve said there was going to be some more promotional campaigning for the project. But I haven’t seen anything. As a matter of fact, my crappy video is more promotion in the last week than anything from them.
C’mon Mattel! Pull a hail mary! Throw in Doink by default or switch to an Attitude Ring with a cell or something.
I love you.

Although while a cool concept the ring could have just been designed like the ESR, because who is going to build and take apart a ring on a daily basis? Are fig fed guys going to build and take down the ring for each show? lol. But the entrance is phenomenal looking and with the ring, two figures and 2 set of skirts is a nice package. So there’s no reason for Mattel to have felt it would have reached 8K. The reason it’s going to fail is because the collectors expecting more. They want everything shown at the 5K tier and want Mattel to add more to it. While not having to pay tax and shipping. It’s not going to happen. If everyone who wants it just ordered it already it would make the 7k Doink level and more than likely reach the 8k. But it’s going to fail because people want everything for next to nothing. Besides how they advertised it, the only thing Mattel can be blamed for when this fails is offering a crowdfunded to begin with.

My personal issue is, with the size of my "man cave", I just don't have room for a ring. Wish I did. But I really want the Diesel & Doink. Huge fan of both and the figures are great. So I want to know I get both before I go to the hassle of buying it & trying to sell the ring. If they'd randomly decide to add the Doink & the skirts to the 5000 mark, I'd pounce.

A lot of us want LESS, not more. Just see Marino's post below yours and many others in this thread. I just want entrance. Some just want Doink. Some just want the ring. A lot of those people (like me) don't want to have to buy 2 to 4 other things just to get the one thing they want. Anyway, we're all just rehashing. We'll see how it turns out!

If Mattel had put this exact set up on creations without the crowdfunding bullcrap, with how awful the rollout was and them charging you instantly (then changing it, then changing it back again), had they said "there will only be 8000 of these", they would have sold out in minutes and everyone would have complained when they couldn't get one.
Crowdfunding model didn't work because people were apprehensive about backing when you had to pay upfront just incase it wasn't backed. So nobody backed, the campaign failed right out of the bat. The contents of the campaign are not the issue, Mattel's chosen rollout is the issue.
This is one of the most poorly mismanaged trainwrecks I've ever seen in my entire life. Whoever came up with the specifics of this should never ever be allowed to plan any kind of campaign for Mattel again.

Has Mattel ever tried selling a $250 bundle before and had it "sell out in minutes"? 35-dollar figures have done that, like SDCC Slaughter, but I don't remember any expensive multi-piece items like this.

The only thing in the set that I would truly want would be the entrance. Diesel is nice, but it’s not something I need. Doink would never be a character I would put on my shelves. As I never found the character entertaining. And the ring while a neat concept isn’t for me because if I were to set up a ring it would stay set up. But I had to take down my ESR last year because of room constraints. So all I would really want is the entrance stage. I was never going to do this because it’s not going to fit my collecting style which is just figures. Unless it’s Batman related then I go all in with vehicles and Batcaves. But I stand by what I said. The majority of the people who are/were saying they want all of it are pretty much all saying everything should be at the first tier with more stuff added before they’ll back it.

At the lower production numbers, it’s likely what Mattel needs to charge for it to be a successful item. Then, the value for the customer comes into play. The value is subjective and I think you make good points regarding the ring. The new tooling is cool, but I’d have that all covered 99.9% of the time. So, while the price is fair, the value isn’t there for me, when I can get comparable rings for much cheaper. The whole set is a great design, but $250 is just too much for what it’s worth to me. I personally wouldn’t spend more than $200 on this, and that’s because I don’t need it and there are plenty of other options.

Bill has said that the Ultimate Diesel will have special packaging to look different than all the other UE figures. With special packaging and limited to only around 5k made if Shawn Michaels and the Rock’s go for $200 then this one will go for that or more. Basically the Diesel figure if you resale it will pay for your ring and entrance stage. How are people not jumping on this ? The Doink if we get there will also have special packaging. So I take it you’ve bought 5 since you’re so sure of the resale value and profit to be made?

Considering how few people are willing to back this, why would anyone take the risk of purchasing it to resell? People already don’t want it. Why will they want it in 12 months?

This happens all the time with Ringside Exclusives. They sit on the site for months, sometimes years before they finally sell out. The moment they do, the secondary market prices jump to three or four times the original cost. If this thing gets backed, I don't see how anyone would have an issue selling on the secondary market.

There has been a lot of activity about this topic so I apologize if this has been brought up already, but is the general consensus that if they included Doink and the extra aprons at the 5k tier more people here would be willing to drop the $250 since they know what they will be getting?

I'm sorry, I really want this to succeed but I'm not spending $250 on something I don't want just because I want this to work. Customers should not be blamed for this, Mattel is the one responsible for not offering something that people want. If this makes them not try again just because of their own error then that's on them too. I have my first baby coming in 9 weeks. I would feel stupid spending $250 9n toys that I DO want, let alone ones I don't. The entrance stage and Doink are great, I'd love to have them, but I'm not spending $250 for a stage and and ultimate.

Oh I think that’s a pretty safe assumption. The question is would there be 4000 people who are like that. I’m not so sure. I will say that I bet a good number of the naysayers on here want this project to fail because if it did have a chance to succeed, they would probably go in on it because they wouldn’t want to miss out. So as of right now they’re just going to shoot it down because it would make them feel better that it’s not going to get made. I love you.

People are allowed to not like everything you like. Gimmick posters suuuuuuuuuck. I strike a nerve there pal? I didn’t say EVERY person who rejected the project falls into that group. But I do absolutely believe a good number of them would back it if it was nearing 5000. I love you.

Don’t have the space for something with that footprint or would rather use the space they have for something else 2. Don’t think it’s value for money 3. Are genuinely not interested in it Not everything is a conspiracy or needs to be viewed through cynical glasses - what appeals to some doesn’t to others. At this point facts point to it not appealing to anything but a very small % of adult collectors

The fact that you and that other guy are getting so uppity about it makes me think you’re probably in that camp. And if you’re not, then why are you so offended? I love you.

You said “ I will say that I bet a good number of the naysayers on here want this project to fail” So you are giving your opinion on others intentions and insinuating what you believe to be their motive. There are perfectly valid reasons for wanting this, likewise there are perfectly valid reasons for not wanting it. It’s not for anyone to cast doubt on anyone’s decision to buy or not to buy. I am not backing it, but I want it to go ahead 1. For the people who do want it and 2. Because if this is successful there may be something down the line I do want. I just think you saying people don’t want to it backed is a little unfair.
