Seeing as how the new wave of Retros seem to be based around Wrestlemania I, it seems possible that there will be future sets also based on Wrestlemanias. If this turns out to be the case, which superstars would you choose for each set? Keeping to guys that are under deals, as well as one non-wrestler per set, here are my picks:
Wrestlemania 2: -Gorilla Monsoon -Andre the Giant (yellow trunks) -Big John Studd -Nikolai Volkoff
Wrestlemania III: -Vince McMahon -Macho Man Randy Savage -Ricky Steamboat -George the Animal Steele
Wrestlemania IV: -Miss Elizabeth -Hulk Hogan -Davey Boy Smith -Don Muraco
Wrestlemania V: -Bobby Heenan (blue jacket) -Macho Man Randy Savage -Bret Hart -Jim Neidhart
Wrestlemania VI: -Jimmy Hart -Greg Valentine (Rhythm & Blues) -Andre the Giant (blue singlet) -Ultimate Warrior
Wrestlemania VII: -Sensational Sherri -Macho King Randy Savage -Ultimate Warrior -Sgt Slaughter (Iraqi)
I was going to put Terry Funk in the WM2 set, but I thought it needed to include a bigger name like Andre. Perhaps Volkoff could be in the WM6 set instead.
Also, I originally had Heenan in the WM3 set, but figured they would need to do a Vince at some point, and WM3 was his most iconic appearance from the early Manias (hence the upcoming BAF).

Great choices! With Chainsaw Charlie coming down the line, I’d say Funk is still under a deal.

I’m not into retros at all but if they made a SS88 Mega Powers vs Mega Bucks I’d definitely jump on that.

Something like this would cause most people’s heads to explode with excitement…but then there would be no one to buy the figures, y’know, on account of their heads exploding…

I’d love any (and all!) of those sets - but then I’m a complete Retros mark so that’s not much of an accomplishment But seriously, they are exciting ideas. I’ve also drawn-up a few set ideas that they could do - I think one of the perhaps less obvious events that might hit a lot our “wants” could be SummerSlam 1990: -Ultimate Warrior: the black gear from the event to match the talking Hasbro -Rick Rude: the long yearned for short-hair Rick Rude in one of his most iconic attires, plus a chance to get him in a more popular body than Hasbro did - maybe a more jacked Texas Tornado body like they are debuting with Mr T? -Jim Neidhart: Hart Foundation: this one speaks for itself in the history of the line; attire close to the Bret 1 Hasbro but not exact so customisers need to buy extras to make them match -Bret Hart: Debatable whether we need this one given the Hasbro, but I’d prefer them to match in the Retro line. Could Mattel get out the tag titles with the Hart Foundation? Or the blue strap winged-eagle with Warrior? Potential gaps to be filled there.

Honestly?
I'm trying to wrap my head around making Sherri and Liz as retros and it seems a bit weird.
Not because I wouldn't love to see it, I'm just trying to picture any woman in the retro/hasbro style...

Not because I wouldn't love to see it, I'm just trying to picture any woman in the retro/hasbro style... Chella are making Bull Nakano in this form soon, though we’ve only got the drawing to go on right now I think: Miss Elizabeth and Sherri will be interesting to see; I’m certain we will get to them quite soon if the Retros relaunch proves a success. With news from Steve Ozer that Hogan was pencilled-in for this current set then I wouldn’t rule-out some sort of Mega Powers set with Miss Elizabeth in with Hogan and Macho, if they can find a good option for the fourth spot (Jimmy Hart from his 1993 run with Hogan maybe could sneak in there? Or Hillbilly Jim from the Survivor Series ‘88 match?).
