Hey, guys!
All of the hype over the past few days/weeks/month for AEW Rampage tonight is getting me so excited, but it made me curious.
AEW obviously is seeing major success there with the event tonight. Although, I will admit, this is perhaps a once in a lifetime buzz for professional wrestling. Love him or hate him, a CM Punk return to wrestling after the way he left the WWE is going to be a top wrestling moment of all-time for as long as the industry is alive. They could've teased this return in any market and it would've been the same live event success.
But this all leads into my question: does anyone understand why WWE does not run the United Center in Chicago? Chicago is famously a really hot wrestling city, so surely attendance isn't to be worried about.
I live in the Midwest but have been all over the country to wrestling events. I've seen some really nice venues and I have to say, the Allstate Arena is nothing special. First off, is it even in Chicago? The drive from the metro Chicago to the venue is a nightmare. Nothing else is really around the arena except a neighboring Target, which is really odd to see. The venue inside looks like it hasn't been renovated in years, and the concourses and stairwells are awkwardly placed and built. I understand the legacy the venue holds for some really great moments in the WWE, but I don't see that as a reason for the WWE to stick with it.
Why doesn't WWE run in a much more "big time" arena when they head to Chicago? Is the building too expensive? Is it too booked up between the Bulls, the Blackhawks and whatever else is going on? I can't imagine it is a location thing considering they run venues that are smack-dab in the middle of busy cities like MSG and the Staples Center.
EDIT: Digging in a bit, I am seeing there is at least one house show in recent years (2018) at the United Center. But I still don't see any signs of a televised event or a PPV taking place at the venue. The ad read for the show even says "WWE will return to the United Center for the first time in over 20 years on Saturday, March 3!"

Because WWE can barely sell out a 7,000 seated arena.

The WWE has historically ran the Rosemont Horizon/All State Arena mainly because itโs literally down the road from OโHaire Airport. Easy โin and outโ for the event. The UC is downtown and much tougher to get to.
Plus itโs a much smaller venue than the UC, so itโs easier to fill and make look โbiggerโ than it would be for them to try to fill the UC. Iโm sure booking it is cheaper than booking the UC as well.

Like cordless said, maximizing profits and ease of in and out. Let's be honest as cool as last night was if Punk wasn't returning AEW wouldnt have had that crowd for a Rampage show or a pre pandemic show. Theres a reason they're running their big ppv in a smaller arena instead of the United Center.

Don't think anyone was saying they don't run it, its just not common. The first ever event in the UC was SummerSlam 94.

They probably wouldn't fill it for a weekly show.

After last night I dont know if itโd be smart for them to run there for a while. CM Punk chants were one thing when he was on the sidelines doing nothing. Itโs gotta be a complete thorn in the side to oleโ Vinny Mac hearing your crowd chant for some other promotions guy now.

DAE WWE can't fill the 23,000 seat arena ?! It's kinda weird the way a competitor can hit a single milestone and people will act like it's all over for WWE.

AEW has tried to book several 10,000 seat arenas but have been denied because those places have relationships with WWE. So where else is AEW supposed to go. Lets see how WWE attendance is for the forseeable future with Cena gone.

DAE Vince and Bruce and Nick Khan and Dunn and Laurinaitis and PG killed the prahduck for Disney sale?? Fed is ded tbh, no matter what that fedpilled bootlicker Tyler Breeze says. Just wait until a fan gets hospitalised from watching the Bucky Beaver camera cuts (DAE?) on the big tron screen. Theyโll be out of business before the sale even goes through. In all seriousness though, a bunch of factors are involved - the logistics are easier (especially for TV), rental is a lot cheaper, not having to work around the schedules of real sports, less seats to fill to turn a profit, etc etc.

Is CM Punk not really a draw?!Is AEW in danger of going under?!You won't believe how much bigger than the All Out location the Extreme Rules location is!Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe.
