So me and the whole family have COVID right now. It's pretty rough. We were all vaccinated back in March. I have no doubt that that is what is keeping us from probably being in the hospital. But that's neither here nor there. I don't want this thread to be about vaccines or politics. I just wanted to make the point that we were vaccinated and that this is a breakthrough infection. Anyways, most of us are over the awful fever and then gone and then back again trail for the most part. We still have shyt going on like coughing, sneezing, aches, weakness, etc. But again it's less and less. The one symptom I'm mainly struggling with now is the loss of taste and smell. My nose burns often throughout the day. This is miserable. I'm also reading horror stories of people never really getting back to normal or in rare cases not getting it back at all. Anyone here have covid before and can shed some insight on the taste/smell situation? I gotta tell ya... it's ing depressing. I got an Egg McMuffin delivered to me this morning. It was so hot and fresh. And it tasted like a paperweight. I love you.

I’d suggest avoiding McDonald’s and eating only whole foods, that should help with the recovery. good luck.

And it wasn’t actually McDonald’s… it was a boiled egg, no toast. But that sounds so boring ha. Don’t get me wrong I would love to eat McDonald’s, but I literally can’t taste anything so it doesn’t matter. I love you.

I remember I lost my taste and smell when I had covid. It usually comes back when youre all better tbh but not sure what you can do exactly to get it back. You just gotta be patient. I remember when I ate covid and ate Jack in the box and threw away my food midway because I couldnt taste anything.
Also maybe soda may help cuz of the fizz.

I never personally lost my senses. But people I know that did have gone up to like 3 months before getting it back.
I had one relative get into an awkward situation after they recovered. They were at work and eating some food they had cooked. And since they couldn’t smell anything, they didn’t realize how strong the smell of their food was until people started complaining

I got covid twice within the last year and a half. I'm not vaccinated and have not gotten it since. The first time I could not sleep and felt like I was being suffocated at times, so I took a lot of painkillers. I was literally panicking and it's the strangest thing because you literally feel you're dying and no one could save you. The second time around I started to feel sick and got really bad body pain on the train. It was to the point where I had to stand up multiple times and not make myself seem crazy in public. I got everyone in my household sick including the baby. The burning sensation in your nose for me felt like having pool water in your nose. I recommend you make a lot of soups with ginger, hot peppers and tumeric. Also, keep your body hydrated and try to get some rest. I know I personally made some juices with orange juice, lemon, lime, ginger and turmeric. It helped. There's also this product called Theraflu, not sure if it's sold in your part of the country, but it helped with relief as well. Hope you get well!

I also happen to live in New York City and wore a mask (although these things do not prevent the virus).

I have OCD, am a germophobe, and appear to have an above average immune system. Covid's got a lot of hurdles to jump. I'm not worried.
I am curious about the smell and taste thing though. Does your sense of smell vanish completely? Can you smell bacon? Gasoline? The fact that covid could lead to someone dying in a gas leak is insane. Does it go that far?
Is not being able taste food or drink depressing because everything tastes the same? Does it taste bad? I have a very small menu of things I eat. Something like chicken wings tastes like sh*t to me. Carrots are disgusting. I'd rather let you punch me than eat fish. Would I be able to eat all of those things with no sense of taste?

Carrots are disgusting. I'd rather let you punch me than eat fish. Would I be able to eat all of those things with no sense of taste? Brother… Smell and taste are GONE. 100%. That’s not hyperbole. It is gone. Not diminished, not faint, GONE. It’s a bizarre feeling. I stuck deodorant and a bar of soap right up to my nostrils to get something. Nothing. Taste? Forget about it. The only thing left with food is texture. This is NOT like smell and taste loss with a cold. It’s completely different. It is true loss. To answer your questions... YES you could eat all those things and not get sick. Taste is 100% gone. And I find it depressing because I'm a food-enthusiast (fatass). Oh fun fact… the reason this is is because of your Olfactory Nerve (the main nerve for taste and smell). When you have a cold, the nerve signals are diminished. With COVID, the virus attacks the nerve itself. And yes, there are many horror stories of people taking months to get the two senses back… and in some cases, are still waiting. this shyt 😭 I love you.
