So ... we all know AEW has a large roster. Even with Dark and Elevation able to house some spots, a lot of talent goes unused weekly. With rumors of Owens, Dunne, Zayn, Wyatt, etc. all possibly joining up one day, that puts a LOT of big name talent in one place with just two belts.
Could you see a brand split of sorts happen? Half the roster stays on Dynamite, Rampage goes to two hours and the other half wrestle there. WWE has done it. I mean, why not?
Here's the GREAT part. AEW has been able to see EVERY mistake WWE has made doing a split. This means they can DO IT RIGHT! I don't know what that looks like, mind you, but we all know what doesn't work.
Some ideas?
- Have a Dynamite champ and a Rampage champ BUT keep the AEW title as the holy grail belt and let that guy compete on both shows.
- Keep the TNT belt but add something for whichever show it's not on. Cruiser title? A "tough guy" title that works for Mox-types? An "MMA"ish title for guys like Hager? A "stable" title where all members get a belt or a ring or something?
- No talent crossovers ever until the big PPV of the year? A true split.
Adding more titles would help the log jam at the top. Tony is going to have to do something though. You can't have Omega, Danielson, Page, Cole, Pac, Mox, Cody, MJF, Miro, Punk, and Darby and just have one belt.
Thoughts?

Nah. I'm good keeping things the way they are now. If anything, they can always add more matches to Dark and Elevation.

I think they just need another title.

I do like the idea of an AEW Brand Extension, but I don't think that would be necessary. Regardless of how large their roster is and will be, they don't have any doors that are forbidden to walk through. I think AEW just needs a 4-Man Faction / Stable Tag Team Championship Title. In January, they should introduce the TBS Championship Title Belt, exclusive to Rampage, and have the TNT Championship Title Belt become exclusive to Dynamite. That should solve things.

I dont think they need a legit brand split as much as they "assign" their lower card to certain shows. You dont want your main guys exclusive to one show but telling Matt Hardy & whatever that group is he has "Hey you guys are gonna be working only Dark. And then going to someone like the Gunn Club and saying "you guys are only going to work Rampage" isnt a bad thing. Its essentially how WWF use to run house shows. They split their under card under their 2-4 different headliners and ran 2 shows but they werent "split"

They just need to find creative ways to utilize as many people as possible per show to keep them relevant. I encourage more short promos and segments, especially done in a way to incorporate people who aren't actually on the show. Several months back Thunder Rosa had one where she talked about Britt Baker I think, but also brought up how she wanted to face Serena Deeb and win back the NWA Women's title. So that's one 60 second promo that incorporates three wrestlers on the show. It's also very basic but I really dig when they cut to wrestlers watching from the crowd or Darby from the rafters. It also goes without saying and baring the occasional exception (IE: the tag matches they just had with JE/Lucha Bros/Varsity Blondes/Private Party) don't give people matches on Dynamite and Rampage on the same week. They're most likely going to do that anyways though.
As for belts the only things I'd consider bringing in are Trios and Women's Tag, and both of those would be down the line (specifically once they open the Forbidden Door with ROH and Rush heals from his injury so we can get an Andrade/Rush/Dragon Lee vs. Death Triangle match).

They split their under card under their 2-4 different headliners and ran 2 shows but they werent "split" ^^^^^^ This x1000. I'd say AEW is well on their way to accomplishing this. We essentially do have tiers at this point for most of the card. One grey area right now is Rampage, and I think part of that is because it is such a new show still, and they needed a) to hot shot it a bit to get it going, and b) figure out what the heck it is. Once they've sorted out the b part there, I think they can pretty much finish the 'assignments'. The Gunn Club is actually a really good example of this over the past year. We had maybe 2 or 3 dynamite appearances by the Gunn Club, but like 25 Dark appearances or something like that. Diamante is a really good example from the women's division. She has been on dynamite again, maybe 2 or 3 times in the past year, but has been on Dark basically every taping. When was the last time we saw Sonny Kiss on dynamite? It's been ages, but he's in the middle of a feud with his former tag partner Janela on Dark. Having these stories both develop and conclude on Dark like Diamante/Swole is really important for this concept to work. They aren't 100% set in stone 'you only ever work Dark' but it's more '95% of your stuff is going to be Dark right now. Likewise Moxley is 95% dynamite. He maybe made 2 Dark appearances. Young bucks, Kenny, Hangman, etc. The major stars are pretty much dynamite/rampage exclusive, and the 'developmental' crew is like 95% Dark. Now that the roster is continuing to grow I think we'll see a few shifts in who does what, and we may see some 'cycling' of assignments. A lot of the mid-card and lower card acts (like the HFO) may cycle in and out. A couple months being featured more on dynamite and rampage, then back to Dark for 4 months, etc. Tony said himself, they don't have a performance center, so Dark and Dark: Elevation is their version of a performance center. I think we'll continue to see these lines in the sand being drawn, and it's better for the show as a whole. More of the stars appear more regularly on Dynamite/Rampage. When the up and comers do get their shots, the people that watch Dark consistently get rewarded for following it, and the ones that don't provide a great litmus test to see how good the developmental guys are getting and if they're ready to move up the ranks.

But what kind of belt do you create that can be on the same level as the world title? Omega, Page, Jericho, Mox, Cole, Danielson, Punk, Cody, Pac, Miro, and MJF are all headline talent IMO. Unless you're constantly running three-ways, what do you do with main event names when they aren't in a title program? And then if Owens comes in too? I'm really just looking at Omega, Cole, Danielson and Punk. Those 4 only have business going for the world title.

i've said it before that once they move dark to orlando, they should create a secondary/developmental roster specifically for the lower card to be featured on. keep your big stars on dynamite and rampage + build stars on dark. then use elevation to pit people from both rosters against each other. with that show staying on the road, it gets people from dark back out in front of a bigger crowd to get over with. when ready, give them a chance on tv, elevating them (if ya wheel) to the main card.

I thought about this too. Maybe if they could get a second hour for Rampage it could work.

Not everyone has to be world champion either.

I wouldn't want separate rosters. I'd like Rampage to be 2 hours and just more-or-less book a 4 hour show every week. Don't do much if any overlap from Dynamite to Rampage on that particular week. Get people on TV more often each week.

They just put on a masterclass in how to get people on Dynamite IMO.

Ring of Honor will never do business with AEW because I heard somewhere that the higher ups at ROH have heat with the Bucks and Omega.

Yeah, because ROH helped them run All In, which led to AEW forming.

Brand splits s*ck and no AEW shouldn't go down that road.
