Who can remember when Kurt got signed? Was there hype? Cause I don't see none for this dude. I first heard about Kurt Angles signing in a wwe.com story back in 1998.

He's going to be the new Gobbeldygooker, Gobble Stevenson. He'll be managed by Terry "Red Rooster" Taylor.

Who can remember when Kurt got signed? Was there hype? Cause I don't see none for this dude. There has been a lot more coverage for this than there was for Kurt Angle, for a few reasons: 1) The growth of the Internet. Millions more news sites, competing for clicks. 2) WWE has a stronger relationship now with legitimate outlets like ESPN. 3) He just won the gold medal so it’s more current, whereas Kurt signed with WWE a couple of years after his big win.

Honestly was hoping he’d go the UFC route but I imagine he’s getting way more money than he would starting out in mma

Honestly was hoping he’d go the UFC route but I imagine he’s getting way more money than he would starting out in mma Dana White wanted him to get some amateur bouts before putting him on his Contender Series show to get a UFC contract. If Steveson is going to do MMA, he is going to become a star in pro wrestling first and use it to get the big money. Even Daniel Cormier suggested he go that route.

He said he decided to watch Raw in summer 1998 (good thing he didnt tune in 2 years earlier) and got hooked.

Appreciate the Angle comparisons but those are big shoes to fill. Unless this is a Jordan / James type situation, I wouldn't expect that type of person to come out of this. I think a lot of people forget based on Angle's final booking not only how incredibly athletic he was but also how naturally gifted he ended up being when it comes to pro wrestling in general.
Not that I'm saying there's no chance here but Kurt really is the dark horse answer in the goat convo in my opinion so unless this young dude hits all those same marks and then some, it's unfair.

This. Because of his relatively short run in the WWE, a lot of people leave Angle out of the GOAT convo but he’s there. Comparing Gable to Angle before he even has his first training session is setting crazy expectations.

While he's a high level athlete and could be good in time he has no proven track record in "sports entertainment" and no drawing power.
The key thing is "in time" and that's not something wwe specialises in much now. They'll probably put the belt on him in his first or second match, force him on us and then wonder why he's being booed.....again
